Description

The Department of Radiation Oncology seeks a research project manager to oversee research projects in a division that consists of multiple independently funded investigators whose work focuses on health services, outcomes, and policy research relevant to radiation oncology.

The successful applicant must be highly motivated, have strong training, excellent writing and editing skills, and work independently, as well as programmatic experience in overseeing multiple complex research projects that involve both quantitative and qualitative methods and investigators from diverse disciplinary backgrounds.

JOB DESCRIPTION :

  • Responsible for managing complex research projects.
  • Using an advanced knowledge of research methodology and techniques, assists in the planning and development of survey instruments, guidelines and procedures to collect required data.
  • Coordinates various aspects of the study.
  • Drafts and may edit text for studies.
  • Analyzes data, identifies data discrepancies and researches and identifies causes.
  • May perform statistical analysis of numerical data.
  • Actively contributes to the development of research protocols.
  • Determines how research methodologies or tools must be modified.
  • Ensures that study data and systems are maintained and accurately documented.
  • Analyzes data and develops reports to assess or monitor study performance and treatment results; may develop associated operational and statistical reports for management and regulatory agencies.
  • May oversee regulatory compliance efforts.
  • May develop and submit grant proposals and advise principal investigator of changes in reporting or accounting requirements.
  • May monitor expenses and receipts for active protocols.
  • Coordinates and conducts special meetings and presentations.
  • Coordinates computer support for ancillary studies conducted at off-site locations.
  • Collaborates on reports and papers.
  • Assists in the preparation of tables and graphs for publication and presentation.
  • May design and develop databases related to specific programs at the request of supervisor and / or Principal Investigator.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS :

The ideal candidate will play a critical role in maintaining and further developing the research capacity and projects of the Division of Health Services, Outcomes, and Policy Research in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Emory University to further establish it as one of the top Radiation Oncology sites in the world. This person will :

  • Oversee, coordinate, and establish processes for conducting the research projects of the division
  • Design and develop databases, prepare data summaries and reports
  • Draft and edit text for grant applications, studies, and manuscripts
  • Supervise research assistants
  • Perform other duties to support research projects including assisting with IRB submissions, assuring regulatory compliance, and assisting with material transfer agreements.
  • Foster collaborations between clinician-researchers and researchers internally, with other departments at Emory, and with other research institutes, locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Enhance the profiles of our research and of the research groups and teams in the department by overseeing the planning, logistics and implementation of meetings and various special events such as lectures, seminars, conferences, or research projects.
  • Foster links with faculty development (such as supporting clinicians in their scholarly activities, identifying or developing courses for clinicians interested in increasing their research capabilities) and clarify optimal career paths and mechanisms needed to increase the development of clinician scientists
  • Assist in developing training materials and programs to support the scholar role in the areas of health services, outcomes, and policy research
  • Improve awareness and utilization of publicaly available databases (., MarketScan, SEER registry) for research
  • Mentor research staff and faculty
  • Build capacity, partnerships, and strong research networks.

These goals will be achieved by ensuring our research faculty are optimizing their productivity and career trajectories.

The research output of the Department and its affiliated members will be operationalized into practice through knowledge translation and exchange, to transform research findings into policy, decision-making, clinical practice and frontline care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • A master's degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, sociology, and psychology or related discipline and two years of professional level research experience, OR an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

NOTE : Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion.
