Lateral officers - are individuals currently employed asa police officers or sheriff's deputies who would begin as RPD officers with their salary to be based on their experience, job knowledge, and level of skill.

2025 wage range is $38.96 to $54.01

Applicants must :

  • Possess a valid Minnesota Peace Officer license, be eligible to be licensed, or be in the process to be licensed in the State of Minnesota; and
  • Possess a valid driver's license.

  • I am "eligible to be licensed, meaning I have completed the MN POT Board approved professional Peace Officer education and skills AND PASSED the MN "Peace Officer Licensing Examination."
  • I have completed the MN POST Board approved professional Peace Officer education and skills requirements, BUT HAVE NOT TAKEN the MN "Peace Officer Licensing Examination
  • I am "eligible to be licensed" meaning I have completed basic training or certification requirements in another state with which Minnesota has reciprocity and I have been found to be eligible to take the licensing examination in Minnesota and have already PASSED the MN POST Reciprocity Exam
  • I have completed basic police training or certification requirements in another state with which Minnesota has reciprocity, meaning that as an out of state applicant I have been found to be eligible to take the licensing exam in Minnesota because I left this state prior to licensing;

or have military experience, BUT HAVE NOT TAKEN the MN POST Reciprocity Exam

  • I am currently pursuing the MN POST Board approved professional Peace Officer education requirements and anticipate being MN POST eligible by January 1, 2025.
  • I have completed the MN POST Board approved professional Peace Officer education requirements BUT HAVE NOT COMPLETED the SKILLS requirement or taken the MN POST "Peace Officer Licensing Examination.
  • None of these situations apply to me.
