About the Department

Welcome to the Department of Cultural and Behavioral Sciences at Georgia State University Perimeter College. Cultural and Behavioral Sciences is a diverse department that offers pathways of study focused on the academic and applied investigations of how humans interact-behaviorally, geographically, instructionally, socially and culturally.

The department offers dynamic learning environments that cultivate communication skills, critical and creative thinking and scientific inquiry.

Cultural and Behavioral Sciences students build an awareness of how personal, societal and cultural development can be applied to living and working in a culturally diverse environment.

Position Description

Perimeter College invites applications for a lecturer in psychology. Lecturer positions are academic year (August-May) non-tenure track appointments, which may be renewed up to six (6) years.

This is a teaching-focused position : 100% of the workload is instruction. Lecturers are responsible for providing 36 credit hours of instruction per academic year and maintaining weekly office hours.

Perimeter College faculty maintain a campus presence, and the successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to early undergraduate teaching and learning, and the ability to thrive in a highly diverse academic setting.

Perimeter College is a multi-campus institution, and the teaching assignment may be on any of the college's campuses.

Required Education

A minimum of a Master's degree required in the teaching discipline or a minimum of a Master's degree with at least 18 semester or 27 quarter graduate hours in relevant coursework (completed by the anticipated date of appointment) is required.

Salary range Master's : $42,432 - $47,432

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

  • College teaching experience. One year is preferred and can include experience as a teaching assistant at a college or university.
  • Ability to teach a variety of introductory psychology courses including Introduction to General Psychology, Human Development, Social Psychology, and Abnormal Psychology at the college level.

Experience teaching online and using a distance learning platform.

  • Experience or demonstrated interest in high-impact educational practices, scholarship of teaching and learning, building college-to-career linkages, and / or other pedagogical initiatives that enhance student success.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in scholarship in the discipline and / or scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • A Ph.D. in the teaching field is preferred. Salary range Ph.D. : $47,582 - $52,582

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to create a sense of belonging for a varied student population and facilitate student learning in both the in-person and virtual learning environments.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills (able to maintain appropriate records).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues to achieve discipline, department, or college goals.
