Your Impact
- As the technical lead, perform strategic modeling, design and engineering analyses duties, including interactive mine design and sequencing utilizing various mine modeling software packages
- Conduct a full range of mine engineering functions, including :
Detailed design of open pit and underground minesEngineering trade-off studiesCost estimation and economic analysis of alternativesPreparation of technical documents including public disclosure documents for Mineral Resources and Reserves
- Support both the engineering and geologic aspects of projects as necessary
- Apply WSP’s Project Management standards to manage all aspects of projects
- Work collaboratively with engineers and technical staff to develop the skills and procedures needed to effectively deliver engineering and consulting assignments
- Serve as an internal technical resource and provide guidance and mentorship to junior-level staff.
- Identify, develop, and follow through on new business opportunities
- Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 5 to 7 years relevant post education experience in engineering with an emphasis on open pit and / or underground mine planning, design and scheduling
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Experience as a consulting engineer or with a technical services role within a mining company
- Strong technical writing skills with experience writing proposals and technical reports.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and strategic planning skills
- Experience utilizing mine planning, design and scheduling software packages such as MineScape, MineSight 3D, Vulcan, Surpac, Deswik, Datamine, Gemcom, Mine 2-4D, and EPS
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA / QC.
- Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
- Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors, drillers, and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug / alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Ability to travel internationally and to remote project locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Mining Engineering or closely related discipline
- Essential Professional Licensure / Certification.
