Job Description :
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Specialist to join our team in New Bern, NC. The ideal candidate will work with students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, providing essential support and specialized instruction to ensure their academic and personal success.
Key Responsibilities :
- Provide direct and consultative services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each students unique needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to support student learning and development.
- Utilize a variety of communication methods, including American Sign Language (ASL), auditory / oral skills, and written communication.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting interventions and strategies as needed.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of students with hearing impairments within the school environment.
- Provide training and resources to school staff to enhance their ability to support DHH students.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with district and state regulations.
Qualifications :
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- Valid state certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication methods used by DHH students.
- Experience working with K-12 students in an educational setting.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and support staff.
