About the Position :
Under the administrative direction of the Assessor, plans, organizes and supervises daily assessment activities within the Assessor's Office, helping to ensure the accurate and timely production of the County assessment roll.
Performs related professional and administrative work as required.
Examples of Duties
- Oversees the daily activities of the County Assessor's Office, ensuring effective and efficient office operations and record-keeping functions and compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and standards.
- Recommends and assists in the implementation of department policies, procedures, goals and objectives.
- Assists in the development and administration of the department's annual budget; monitors and controls expenditures.
- Assigns, schedules, supervises and evaluates the work of departmental professional, technical and clerical staff; participates in the selection of new staff;
provides adequate staff training and administers employee disciplinary action as required.

Education, Experience & Licenses
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be :
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, or other related degree that meets the appraiser certification requirements of the State Board of Equalization.
- Five (5) to seven (7) years experience in a progressively responsible position in an office focusing on accounting, auditing, property appraiser, property assessment or other related field.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
License and Special Requirements :
- Requires valid advanced certification as an Appraiser issued by the California State Board of Equalization or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
- Requires a valid California driver's license.
Recruitment Information
The department is recruiting for one (1) vacancy.
In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for an Assistant Assessor , as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
