The Director of Marketing and Communications develops and implements strategic plans to support the college's mission, vision and enrollment goals.
This role manages marketing efforts, including digital marketing, public relations, advertising, and emergency communications, while supervising a team of marketing professionals.
The Director ensures consistent messaging and branding in collaboration with the website & brand manager and graphic designer and works with other administrators and college offices.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement communication and promotional campaigns for various internal clients to enhance and promote the Colby-Sawyer College brand.
- Collaborate with creative staff and key stakeholders to plan, direct, and coordinate public relations and marketing activities that promote academic programs, support enrollment and enhance the College's reputation.
- Manage internal and external communications and campaigns to support admissions and recruitment efforts, creating strategies that effectively reach and engage both internal and external audiences.
- Work with leadership, faculty and staff to promote a positive image of the College by writing, gathering and publicizing news stories.
This includes handling tasks personally and assigning them to team members as needed.
- Write, edit and distribute press releases using internal platforms and in coordination with outside agencies (as applicable).
- Monitor and report on media coverage and broader PR campaigns.
- Write content for social media, the website and admissions communications efforts.
- Demonstrate project management skills, organize tasks and coordinate team efforts to meet deadlines.
- Serve as editor of the biannual Colby-Sawyer Magazine, including content planning, creation, storyboarding, managing freelancers, editing and layout approval.
- Act as the main media contact and spokesperson for the College, in conjunction with the VP for Enrollment Management and Marketing.
- Represent the Marketing & Communications Office and College to various internal and external groups, committees and advisory boards as assigned.
- Assist with website edits as needed.
- Provide editorial, production, and proofreading assistance to other departments.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in marketing and communications, preferably in higher education, including supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of digital marketing, social media, and content management.
- Proven ability to manage high workloads, multiple priorities, and complex issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in public relations, media relations, and emergency communications preferred.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Effective team collaboration and advocacy skills.
- Appreciation of the mission of a private college and willingness to work non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends.
