We are looking for a Respiratory Research Physiologist II to support intramural human use research at the Naval Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory, Naval Medical Research Unit in Dayton, OH.

  • Research efforts will require assistance with interrogatories, medical and scientific authoring and editing of research proposals, human use protocols, technical and scientific reports, responses to grants and funding calls;
  • scientific management, coordination of technical review meetings and the preparation and presentation of point papers, technical reports, and other briefings resulting from these meetings, preparation and support of technical summaries and publications resulting from research activities, support in development of Institutional Review Board protocols for human use research;

presentation of research findings at scientific meetings / professional conferences; writing, reviewing, editing, and submitting peer-reviewed articles and technical reports.

Begin your journey of a flourishing and fulfilling career, share your resume with us today!Primary Duties : Prepare (and / or assist in the preparation of) human use research studies and analyses to understand human physiological factors associated with military operations in the aviation, space, and related environments especially as they relate to aeromedical standards, altitude effects, aviation safety, neurocognitive / neurophysiological effects, and related areas.

Research activities will involve medical and human use research both in the laboratory and in the field.Design (and / or assist in the design) and conduct of scientific research, identifying Navy relevant topics in the areas of warfighter health and performance and write research preproposals, research protocols, formal technical reports, and journal publications addressing the above topics.

All publications are subject to Government review and approval).Assist other investigators in the design and execution of research protocols on respiratory physiology and performance issues of interest to the Navy.

Assist with the guidance and execution of research projects by establishing project completion needs, obtaining / developing laboratory materials, developing research progress, and financial plans, developing documentation and coordinating approval of related of human subjects use documents, and managing resources necessary to meet project goals.

Develop (and / or assist in the development of) presentations, publications, and other products for non-research technical and general audiences.

All publications are subject to Government review and approval).Report outcomes, and recommendations through formal meetings, presentations, briefings, technical reports, and publications.

All publications are subject to Government review and approval).Collect physiology and behavior data from human subjects, such as pulmonary endpoints, EKG / heart rate, and performance measures.

Assist and educate entry level research assistant personnel in the understanding and performance of their duties.Operate and maintain standard and specialized laboratory equipment with regard to assessing physiological function and health effects following exposure.

Perform statistical analyses using SigmaPlot, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) or Statistical Analysis Software (SAS).

Examples of the typical analyses required for successful performance include T-tests, Chi-Square, Analyses of Variance, Multivariate Analyses of Variance, analyses of covariance, multivariate analyses of covariance, correlations, linear regressions, multiple linear regressions, and power analyses.

Use multiple computer software packages to create spreadsheets and perform statistical routines.Proactively prepare mission-relevant proposal applications for physiological, medical, and performance studies.

Be willing and able to work nontraditional hours (e.g., nights, weekends) as needed.Perform other duties as needed.What Sets You Apart : Ph.

D. in Physiology or a related scientific field or a Master's plus ten or more years in a related field and two or more years in physiology, with specific work in respiratory physiology.

Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.Proficiency in the use of common statistical analysis software, to include SigmaPlot, SPSS and SAS.

Strong technical writing background in writing research proposals, standard operating procedures, IRB protocols, technical reports, journal articles, and conference papers.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.Self-motivated and capable of working alone and with others.

Have or be able to obtain Secret U.S. Government Clearance to be hired. US Citizenship required.You might also have : PhD plus 2 years of relevant experience in human performance research in the area of physiology and respiratory effects.

Experience in a military or medical research environment is highly desired.Demonstrated experience and success responding to research funding and grant requests for proposals.

Pay Range : Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
