Role Summary As the Staff Manufacturing Engineering Dimensional Engineering, you will be a key lead and technical leader for the team responsible for developing the dimensional strategy for Rivian’s new products.
This will include developing the assembly process for Drive Unit (80%), Body Structure, and General Assembly working cross-functionally with Manufacturing Engineers, Design Release Engineers, and Supplier Development Engineers to ensure successful product launches at Normal, IL and our new greenfield facility in East Atlanta, GA, as well as overseeing Prototype manufacture at our Plymouth Design Office.
The role is located in Plymouth, MI and will report directly to the Manager, Manufacturing Engineering Dimensional Engineering.
Responsibilities Work upfront in the design process to develop and assess feasibility of design targets for key vehicle sub-systems (drive unit).
Cross-functional development and documentation of assembly datum schemes and in process dimensional specification requirements to ensure robust product manufacture.
Perform part and assembly tolerance stack analysis and provide feedback to product and manufacturing engineering team. Development of key product maturation tools to be used in conjunction with quality loops to drive towards product excellence during new product introduction.
Root Cause launch issues in a data driven way. Participate in Virtual and production Build events. Qualifications BS or higher in engineering.
7+ years’ experience CAD & GD&T proficiency CATIA preferred. Expertise in both 1D and 3D tolerance stack analysis, 3DCS preferred.
Passion for problem solving with the ability to methodically root cause issues by following a first principles approach.
Ability to make data driven decisions and demonstrate good analytical skills, experience with minitab / JMP or other statistical software beneficial.
Proficiency with statistical qualification of machinery, equipment, and gages (MSA) and the ability to improve and document our methods for completing these tasks.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaboratively work with and influence cross-functional departments both internally and externally.
Energy & curiosity to make things happen, seek out solutions and represent a world class brand. Manufacturing Engineering experience in powertrain / Drive Unit or engine systems required.
