Looking for a hands-on role where you can work with children in an afterschool program or serve as a mentor? The YMCA in Westminster, CA, is hiring enthusiastic and adaptable individuals to make a difference in the lives of children.
As a Youth Development Staff member, you’ll report to the Site Supervisor and ensure a positive, controlled environment for children aged 5-12.
Your responsibilities include :
- Plan, supervise, and implement the program in accordance with the policies and philosophies of the YMCA and the California Department of Education.
- Provide hands-on, student-centered enrichment activities that incorporate and combine academics, youth development and recreational learning.
- Maintain a program that reflects strong input from students, families, school staff and collaborative partners. Provide good service to school personnel and families.
- Maintain an attitude of dignity and respect toward children, parents, and staff.
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, school, community, and family events as assigned.
- Provide a program that provides a safe and healthy environment for all participants and staff. Ensure that YMCA risk management policies are followed.
- Demonstrate the ability to set and maintain limits for children using positive reinforcement. Monitor and address student behavior and handle discipline appropriately.
- Ensure the program is well organized, daily schedules are maintained and center environment supports learning.
- Provide active and consistent opportunities for students to express their ideas, concerns, and options about the program.
- Ensure that program activities link to the school day and make certain that activities are planned to enhance student achievement.
- Demonstrate and teach the character development of the YMCA 4 core values : Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Caring.
- Supervise proper maintenance of equipment, cleanup of work & play areas.
- Carries out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner.
- Provide additional coverage to other sites as needed in the absence of other staff, in order to maintain a safe staff to child ratio.
- Assist with YMCA Member Involvement program and annual YMCA Campaign.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Hiring Criteria
The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Experience & Background : Must be 18 years of age. One year of experience working with children preferred. Pediatric (EMSA) First Aid and Pediatric (EMSA) CPR certifications required.
Complete YMCA Core trainings within first 60 days of employment.
Skills & Abilities :

- Ability to be an effective member of project teams.
