The Ares Legal & Compliance Department oversees and manages Ares’ global Legal, Regulatory and Compliance functions and programs.
- Under the leadership of the Global Chief Compliance Officer, the Compliance and Regulatory functions are comprised of teams that operate collaboratively with a global focus, including Regulatory, which oversees all global regulatory matters including the Advisers Act, Investment Company Act and FINRA;
- European and Asia Pacific Compliance, which oversees region-specific compliance and regulatory matters; Corporate Compliance, which administers global policies and central compliance and oversight functions;
and Financial Crimes, which oversees Ares’ adherence to financial crimes-related rules and regulations.
Ares is seeking a talented Compliance professional to join our Legal and Compliance team to serve as a junior member of the Registered Products team with a primary responsibility of supporting the implementation, oversight and testing of the compliance programs for Ares’ registered investment companies, including sub-advised registered investment companies, ( RICs ) and business development companies ( BDCs ) companies as required by Rule 38a-1 under the Investment Company Act of 1940 (the 1940 Act ).
The position will report to a Principal in the Registered Products team within the Legal & Compliance Department.
Primary Functions and Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Testing and Reporting
Perform testing under the 38a-1 compliance programs for RICs and BDCs;
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual compliance questionnaires / certifications for RICs
Assist in the preparation of 15(c) materials
Compliance Manual Maintenance
Assist Registered Product Chief Compliance Officer with maintenance and annual testing of compliance policies and procedures
Governance / Regulatory Filings
Manage processes related to the firm’s RICs and BDCs for compliance with the 1940 Act, including board meeting document preparation
Assist with review of board meeting minutes with internal stakeholders for each RIC / BDC
Assist with review of annual, quarterly and periodic filings with the SEC in coordination with colleagues from the legal team
Co-Investment Order Compliance
Manage processes related to compliance with the conditions of the firm’s SEC Co-Investment Exemptive Order, including preparation of board materials, maintenance of the firm Co-Investment log and preparation of quarterly and annual co-investment reports to each RIC / BDC board.
Marketing Material Review
Review and approve marketing materials for RICs / BDCs
Qualifications
Education :
Bachelor’s Degree required
Advanced Degree / Juris Doctor is considered a plus
Experience Required :
7+ years of Finance industry experience in Compliance with experience at a global asset management firm a plus
7+ years of relevant experience with Rule 38a-1 compliance programs
A strong understanding of the federal securities laws, with a particular focus on the Investment Company Act of 1940

Compensation
The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus.
Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.
$140,000-$175,000
