The School of Music is searching for an exceptional and dynamic individual to direct our aural skills program, and to offer additional undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of expertise.

The Boston University School of Music was the first institution in the United States to grant a degree in music. Today, the School of Music trains musicians, educators, composers, and scholars in strong undergraduate and graduate programs.

Required Skills

This will be a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with commensurate expectations of publication and professional activity and visibility.

  • Duties will involve supervising a four-semester aural skills sequence staffed by graduate assistants, including initial training and teaching model sections;
  • teaching new aural skills courses at the advanced undergraduate and graduate levels, along with a theory pedagogy course open to graduate students in all programs at the School;

and teaching other courses in the candidate’s field of interest and as needed by the department (potentially including the music theory core).

Proficiency in both fixed- and moveable-do solfège is necessary. Prior teaching experience is strongly desired.
