Capital Projects Coordinators (CPCs) are a critical member of the Project Development Group, within the Planning & Capital Development (PCD) of Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR).

SPR manages 6,414 acres of park land (12% of the city's land total) that comprise more than 485 parks and open areas and include a wide range of facilities and features such as community centers, swimming pools, wading pools and water spray parks, indoor and outdoor tennis facilities, environmental learning centers, special gardens, athletic fields, park boulevards, green spaces and natural areas, golf courses, lawn bowling facilities, boat moorages, fishing piers, neighborhood playgrounds and play areas, boulevards, large shoreline areas, creeks, trails, and an urban camp.

The Planning and Capital Development Division (PCD) provides long range planning, technical design and construction oversight for SPR major maintenance and development projects.

The CPC / Sr. CPC position is part of a team of project managers within PCD that diligently and vigorously guides project development and implementation.

The CPC / project manager takes the lead and strongly coordinates with all other PCD team members, other SPR divisions, other government entities, and community members and / or non-City partners.

The CPC / project manager is responsible for, and takes pride in, delivering projects within scope, within budget and on schedule.

Responsibilities :

Coordinate the planning, design and construction processes for capital improvement projects for Seattle Parks and Recreation facilities.

Projects are overseen from initial phases through completion.

  • Participate in the early planning process and work towards building a strong team that will contribute at varying degrees throughout the duration of the project.
  • Manage multiple projects at once in various phases of the planning / design / construction process.
  • Be responsible for adherence to approved scope of work, prepare and update working budgets and prepare and update schedules for all assigned projects.
  • Utilize project management software, E-Builder / Procore, and MS Office / MS Project for multiple processes.
  • Follow City of Seattle guidelines to select design consultants. Negotiate, prepare and administer consultant contracts.
  • Coordinate design reviews with the consultant team and internal staff from early design through bid documents.
  • Scope out and obtain required supplemental documents and reports such as but not limited to : surveys, environmental reviews, geotechnical reports, wetland delineations, SEPA checklists, stormwater testing, historical surveys.
  • Identify necessary permits and facilitate the permitting process.
  • Coordinate bidding and contract awards.
  • Administer the construction process and monitor project closeout.
  • Ensure that objectives are met and projects are constructed to Parks Department standards.
  • Serve as the departmental representative with other City departments, outside agencies, special interest groups, and the public to achieve project goals and meet City, State and Federal regulations.
  • Be responsive to requests for information, project updates, and listen to all voices. Respond to the public in a timely manner and notify project team and managers of any potential conflict or opportunity.

Sr. CPCs are assigned more complex and higher visibility projects.

  • Work with the Public Information Officer to execute the public outreach process, incorporate Race and Social Justice Initiatives, update websites, and inform constituents.
  • Lead by example and hold the design team accountable within their areas of expertise.

Minimum Requirements :

Requires a minimum of four years project or construction management or related experience and a Bachelor Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Business Administration, Urban Planning or related field (or a combination of education and / or training and / or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

Successful candidates will demonstrate :

  • Three years of computer use, resulting in competent skills in Adobe products, project management software and social media.
  • A professional license in one of the disciplines mentioned above.
  • Three years of experience in public outreach and engagement.
  • Three years of construction management experience with a variety of public works projects in a governmental setting.
  • Experience with alternative project delivery methods; especially GCCM and Design Build.
  • 6 years or more project managing complex public buildings.
  • Strong familiarity with construction methods and contracting.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to handle a variety of demands and tasks and the flexibility to juggle multiple tasks while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in use of social media outlets, adobe programs, and Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively within a multicultural workforce and serve a diverse customer base.
  • A positive attitude and enjoyment of working in a team-oriented atmosphere.

The full salary range for this position is $59.56 - $69.48 Hourly. This position is classified as a Capital Projects Coordinator, Sr.

and is represented by Protec 17 Professional Unit.
