Overview
Reporting to the Director of Operations, we are looking for a Group Head of Engineering, who will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Engineering Strategy across all Helios Towers Operating Companies (Op Cos), This will include Power Systems, Controls & General Site Arrangements working conjunction with the Structural Engineering Team.
Power availability is a principle element of the services we offer to our customers and it is considered USP at Helios Towers.
As well as reliability, our power designs must be efficient and competitive when evaluating the Total Cost of Ownership.
This role is responsible for leading innovation across our standard products and bespoke customer requirements to reduce costs and improve performance.
The engineering strategy will ensure that the in-country field teams have access to all the relevant information to be able to install, commission and maintain the assets at site.
Any changes to engineering products, specifications and procedures must be managed effectively by the Engineering team.
The role can be based in any of our Operating Companies in Africa or in our headquarters in Dubai or in London.
Role Responsibilities :
- Technically leading the development of the Engineering Strategy to drive value across HTs KPIs and wider Company Strategy.
- Taking technical ownership of power products, monitoring and control systems and ancillary equipment that make up the site design.
Towers and structures are excluded from scope and are managed by our structural engineering team.
- The technical ownership across product development and the process for any new product releases. This includes research, justification, trials, training & launching with the various teams.
- Developing and aligning the Engineering Teams across all Op Cos to deliver objectives and set Best in Class standards.
- Developing HTs product roadmap that will support the growth of the business and the evolving requirements of our customers.
- Developing HTs Technical Training Strategy that ensures engineers have the right knowledge to operate and maintain the equipment on site.
- Developing HTs site configuration & control principles to improve efficiency and maximise the utilisation of our assets on site.
- Defining and developing the logic for measures, alarms and event development within HTs remote monitoring system (RMS) that will provide the right insight to the Operations teams on the ground.
- Supporting and developing the Site Performance Analysis process performed by the SPA teams using the asset data recovered from site through RMS.
This is to ensure sites are operating at their optimum state.
Conducting regular reviews with the Operations teams on common failures. Perform root cause assessments to establish why the failures have occurred.
Work with the respective functions to implement the corrective action to prevent the same issues.
Ensuring all products and system designs comply with safety standards and local regulations.
Requirements for the Role
- Educated to degree level
- Minimum 10 years relevant experience in Power Systems
- Minimum 5 years working in Africa
- Minimum 3-5 years working in a Senior Management Position
- Lean Six Sigma Certification Ideal
- Power, Electrical Engineering, Renewables, Mining
- Experience working in a large organization / public listed organization
- Bilingual in French & in English is preferable
- Strategic thinking
