The Graduate Assistant supports the Office of Sustainability through leadership on key projects and programs. The GA is responsible for large-scale event planning, management and mentorship of student staff, outreach and collaboration to campus and community stakeholders, advising student organizations, and assisting in strategic initiatives relevant to campus sustainability goals.

In this role, the responsible party will lead the planning and implementation of Campus Sustainability Month events and Earth Week events.

This will involve engaging multiple campus and community partners in developing individual and series events. A primary project the GA is responsible for is the move-out collection and fall move-in sale.

They may also assist in planning and implementation for student staff program and projects. ; ; Responsibility towards student staff is a primary duty for this position, as the GA assists in supervising specific projects from students.

The GA assists in planning semester retreat and professional development trainings Responsibility towards student organization advising is a primary duty for this position, as the GA serves as the Student Sustainability Coalition coordinator and advisor.

The GA leads initiatives related to community partnerships with local non-profits, businesses, and schools. The GA is also expected serve as a representative for the Office of Sustainability at campus and community events, meetings, and programs when necessary;

The Sustainability Graduate Assistant will work directly with the Sustainability Coordinator to advance the mission of the office.

This position will both lead projects and work on projects with other offices and community members. The projects will vary based on semester and need.

Strong organization and work ethic is required for this position as this position will work autonomously a majority of the time.

Job Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities Event-Related Responsibilities

  • Plan a month-long series of events during October for Campus Sustainability Month with campus and community partners
  • Coordinate Earth Week committee and plan Earth Week activities in collaboration with multiple campus and community partners with largest event on Earth Day.
  • Collaborate with Residential Life to plan move-out donation collections and coordinate volunteer recruitment / scheduling.
  • Plan and implement fall move-in sale with collected donation items from move-out.
  • Assist in any collaborative programs that may come up.

Outreach and Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison between Office of Sustainability and campus / community partners to facilitate potential collaborations or support promotion of events (including, but not limited to : clubs, offices, departments, faculty, LLCs / housing, local non-profits, businesses, and organizations).
  • Follow-up communication with students that request more information at events or express interest getting involved further.
  • Represent the office at campus and community events through tabling, presentations, workshops, or any other requested collaboration.

Student Staff Responsibilities

  • Supervise projects from student staff relevant to GA responsibilities, such as staff assisting with Sycamore Secondhand or Campus Sustainability Month programs.
  • Assist Sustainability Coordinator in planning student staff semester retreats each semester and professional development trainings during staff meetings.
  • Assist with recruitment, interviewing, and selection of student staff.

Student Organization Advising

  • Coordinate Student Sustainability Coalition meetings and recruit new organizations and students to join the coalition.
  • Implement trainings and workshops for participating coalition organizations and / or other student organizations.
  • Attend necessary meetings and programs of coalition organizations.
