Mammo Technologist

Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks associated with the operation of x-ray and mammography related equipment to assist the radiologist in the detection of anatomical abnormalities.

The technologist is primarily responsible for performing mammography studies. The technologist maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes innovative customer service techniques to provide a positive patient care experience for the patient and their family.
• Acts professionally in all dealings with internal and external customers to promote a working environment that focuses on the patient experience and not operational rivalries or roadblocks to care.
• Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of x-ray and mammographic equipment and their related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures.

Position patients for appropriate procedure using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.

• Assist physician with interventional imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
• Perform the quality control functions related to mammography.
• Evaluate radiographs for diagnostic quality obtaining additional images as needed.
• Establishes and maintains lines of communication with all other staff members and Radiologist to insure an effective and harmonious working environment.
• Communicates effectively with patients and their families about the procedure to be performed in order to obtain information and to offer reassurance.
• Maintains awareness of and practices established radiation safety standards in carrying out duties.
• May rotate shifts or be in an on call status as needed or directed by the organization.
• Performs other duties as assigned for the needs of the organization.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

• Education : Associates Degree, Allied Health or Radiologic Technology
• Experience : Minimum of 2 years imaging experience

Required Licensure and Certifications

• ARRT (R)(M) and MRT
