Job Title : System and Software Safety Engineer

Career Level : We have two levels to fill-

Bachelor’s Degree in Science / Engineering or related field with a minimum of 10 years’ experience OR Master’s Degree in Science / Engineering or related field with a minimum of 7 years of increasingly responsible roles in the development and integration of large-scale Command & Control, and Battle Management Systems.

• Advanced degree and 3+ years ' experience OR bachelors with 5+ years ' experience or equivalent; wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in their field and provides solutions to a wide range of difficult problems with imaginative and thorough solutions;
• works under general direction, and results are reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives; failure to achieve results normally results in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources;

frequent internal and external customer contacts and represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.

Required Qualifications :

• System Engineering background with specialization in System and Software Safety.
• Experience analyzing design to ensure safety requirements are met.
• Ability to apply engineering principles to analyze and recommend design features that meet safety criteria in system design to control or eliminate hazards.
• Experience developing safety documents to support customer and test requirements (SAR, SRA, SSPP).
• Experience with hazard identification.
• Experience participating in System Safety Working Groups.
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-882E.
• System engineering and software systems engineering experience in developing new and integrating existing systems.
• Ability to analyze high-level needs and refine them into an integrated set of hardware and software.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.
• Final SECRET clearance required; TS clearance desired.
• Ability to get TS / SCI Clearance.

Skills Required :

• Identification and definition of desired capabilities.
• Modeling the interrelationships between internal and external components.
• Communicating the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users.
• Generating system / element level functional, performance, and interface specifications to document and control the achievement of the desired capabilities.
• In-depth knowledge of systems engineering concepts, principles, and techniques.

Responsibilities :

• System Safety engineering and development of program safety plans to provide the engineering team with application of safety policies and guidance.
• Support to MDA and other program personnel as required, as well as other system engineering tasks.
• Interface with team members and National Team management to ensure high-quality products are generated on time and within available resources.
• Integration of product lines (BM, C2, Networks).
• Generation of responsible sections of the capability specifications.
• Training less experienced personnel in SE and Safety techniques.
• Reviewing the content and details of technical products.
• Acting as a technical interface to MDA working-level counterparts on an as-required basis.
• Independently complete Safety analysis including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), and support incorporating updates into existing Safety Analysis Reports (SARs).
• Support System Safety Requirements Analysis, including customer coordination for safety impact and safety criticality for all requirements.
• Heavily integrated in the I&T process to ensure all Safety Critical DTAPS stay on schedule and support both internally for C2BMC Safety Team and the customer, BCQS reviews.

Additional Requirements :

Some travel between Colorado Springs and Huntsville, Alabama.
