Summary

The Teacher within the Resiliency Center primarily supports the Head Teacher and Center Coordinator by creating a caring and safe atmosphere for the children with the primary focus of creating an evidence based, trauma-informed, healthy learning environment for children aged six weeks to three-year-old children.

The goal of the teacher within the center is to help build secure attachment and bonding between children and their parents / caregivers and expediting permanency.

Teachers will assist the Head Teacher and Center Coordinator with implementing a quality educational program and developing positive relationships with the children and their parents.

These employees will assist with coordinating assessments to evaluate the children’s needs, observe and document progress, relay relevant information back, and help implement developmentally appropriate activities under the direction of the Head Teacher and Center Coordinator.

Duties

  • Assist Head Teacher in the implementation of curricula activities and offer developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed activities to increase children’s emotional regulation, attachment and bonding, social-emotional capacities, language, fine and gross motor development, and self-comforting skills.
  • Assist Head Teacher with the administration of developmental assessments.
  • Communicate with parents at drop-off regarding their child’s behavior since leaving the center.
  • Follows proper health safety, emergency, and infectious control policies and procedures, and meets all necessary compliance with all childcare licensing standards.
  • Assist the Head Teacher with the set-up of the classroom environment in a clinically appropriate, clean and safe way that promotes learning while meeting department standards and day care license regulations.
  • Assist with the incorporation of the therapeutic recommendations for each infant / toddler.
  • Listens attentively to children; and works from the child’s physical level; assuring that sitting, bending, and kneeling within the child’s eye level, showing sensitivity to the needs and feelings of any child.
  • Assist Head Teacher with ongoing evaluation of children through daily observations, collecting weekly work samples and written assessments.
  • Provide reports to parents and caregivers at the end of the day regarding their child’s day, feeding schedule, and nap schedule.
  • Actively engage in classroom activities; manage cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
  • Deliver DECA for Infants and Toddlers Strategies Guide.
  • Engage parents with their children through classroom observation and real-time role modeling incorporating skills gained in the parenting classes and support groups.
  • Follow all the center policies and state regulations.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements :

  • A typical workday for this employee includes sitting, standing, keyboarding, and lifting / carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • This employee will have possible exposure to clients with potentially communicable diseases.
  • This employee in this position has access to client specific information and client charts, which requires completion of full HIPPA training.
  • Per OSHA Standards, this position is classified as Category 1. This employee may have exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Requirements

  • Energetic and enthusiastic personality.
  • Able to build positive working relationships.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledgeable in child development
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Must have certification in Infant / Child CPR and First Aid as well as Medication Administration
  • Must be able to clear a full background check and pass the health screening
  • Must be able to easily get down and up off the ground to engage with children at their physical level.
  • Must be 21 years old.
  • Must possess a valid CT driver’s license.
  • Must complete all required contiuing trainings annually

Education and Experience :

  • Must have at minimum Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Minimum of two to three years’ experience in professional childcare specific to children zero through 3 years of age
