Position Summary :
Position is responsible for the safety and caring of all students including, students with significant disabilities, special needs or the very young while on a school bus.
This position has been classified as Safety Sensitive in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act and / or the Department of Transportation (DOT), and Board Policy G-37-R3 Medical Marijuana & Safety Sensitive Positions Regulation.
All candidates selected for hire or transferred into a Safety Sensitive position must undergo and pass a pre-employment drug screen before being hired or transferred.
Employees holding safety-sensitive positions may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment, if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.
Essential Duties :
- Helps students to safely board and exit the bus.
- Secures student in safety harness, car seat or wheelchair.
- Operates wheelchair lift and any other specialized equipment.
- Ensures special equipment, such as car seat and wheelchairs, are properly and safely secured to the bus.
- Monitors students with feeding tubes, tracheotomies, oxygen and other unique medical needs to ensure that everything is operating properly and is secured.
- Reports any unusual or changed behavior to the driver, school staff and / or parents.
- Ensures that early childhood, and kindergarten students are released to an authorized person.
- Assures the safe evacuation of children and adults passengers (following the Bus Evacuation Plan) and assists in assuring that all passengers are transported to the nearest hospital or to their private physician, as per Medical / Accident Emergency Plan, in the event of an accident or emergency.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and / or Abilities Required) :
- Must to able to learn about and adapt to different disabilities and / or special needs such as autism, ED, DD, LD, etc.
- First aid and CPR certification preferred.
- Must possess the ability to maintain student discipline and ensure that student behavior is not a distraction to the driver.
- Understands and follows through on oral and written instructions.
- Must possess the ability to interact with unique students, parents, and faculty in a positive and proper manner.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and / or Abilities) :
High school diploma (GED) or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical / Mental Requirements :
- Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
- Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
- Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
- Ability to lift, push, pull up to 75 pounds
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.
Work Environment :
- Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate controlled environment.
- Driving personal vehicle within and outside the district.
