The Department of Labor & Industry is seeking a dedicated Unemployment Compensation (UC) Specialist 1 to join us in our Office of Unemployment Compensation (UC) Tax Services, Employer Account Services section.

This position is customer service focused on reviewing, researching, and analyzing employer issues and inquiries. Bring your ambition and talents to our team! DESCRIPTION OF WORKThis position is primarily responsible for receiving inquiries from employers, third-party administrators, representatives, legal and legislative authorities and other external customers via telephone, chat, electronic and paper correspondence.

Inquiries concern a wide range of UC related topics and may involve account, technical and / or legal issues. In this role, you will have the opportunity to investigate the circumstances surrounding the employer's concerns, evaluate and apply Pennsylvania UC law, analyze, and provide solutions to inquiries.

Communication is key as you will be participating in meetings with internal groups including employers and third-party representatives.

Telework : You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Salary : Starting salary is non-negotiable.

  • REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements : One year as an Unemployment Compensation Claims Intake Interviewer or Unemployment Compensation Tax Technician (commonwealth titles);
  • or One year of technical work experience in an unemployment compensation program, or employment-services program; and a bachelor's degree;

or An equivalent combination of experience and training.Other Requirements : You must meet the PA residency requirement.

Legal Requirements : This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment.

  • Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to : a fingerprint-based federal records check;
  • a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and / or attended school within the last five (5) years;
