The Financial Counselor is responsible for interviewing, verifying insurance benefits, and assisting and performing financial case management for uninsured and underinsured individuals.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Evaluates financial information on patients with potential financial difficulties, and collaborates with social service personnel to provide aid to eligible patients under Kentucky Medical Assistance and other state or federal programs.
- Uses insurance verification tools to obtain benefit information and shares with Patient / Case Management / Billing.
- Coordinates and screens patients who do not qualify for state or federal assistance for charity programs.
- Counsels patients who do not qualify for assistance and establish payment arrangements.
- Contacts individuals who have been pre-admitted to establish payment arrangements if required.
Education :
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred
Experience :
Previous billing, coding, or registration experience required
