Bus Monitor
Job Title : Part-time Bus Monitor (Split shift times are 6 : 30 . and 2 : 00
The purpose of the Bus Monitor is to assist students while they are being transported to and from school; and to provide a consistent environment, discipline and guidance for the students while they are on the bus.
Reports To : Director of Transportation
Major Responsibilities :
- Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.
- Monitor student behavior for the purpose of diffusing situations and / or preventing distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students / passengers.
- Develop positive relationships with students, school staff, and parents.
- Be vigilant and alert to student activity while on the bus as well as at the bus stop.
- Report observations and incidents (., discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, for the purpose of communicating information to the School Safety and Transportation departments.
- Report any actions taken by students to initiate a confrontation, disruption or disturbance.
- Communicate and remind students of bus safety requirements, school rules and provide general behavioral guidance to students while on the bus.
- Respond to and report emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns.
- Work as a team with the bus driver to create and achieve positive behavior standards on the bus.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Split shift availability necessary
- Good verbal communication skills
- Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and good judgment in dealing with students, faculty and parents.
- Knowledge and understanding of children
- Problem solving skills
- Ability to properly analyze situations and adopt effective course(s) of action
- Possess maturity and ability to understand appropriate interactions with others
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job
PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT : the period of employment is the school term or nine and one-half (9.5) months annually.
