THE ROLE : Provides support, advocacy, and crisis intervention for people who are primary and / or secondary victims of crime per Crime Victim Service Center (CVSC) standards for service delivery.
Develop, coordinate, and facilitate outreach efforts, particularly in the communities of marginalized and underserved communities.
The Multilingual Crime Victim Advocates provides victim advocacy services to BIPOC and refugee and immigrant communities in Portland, OR and the surrounding areas.
Lived experience is valued in this role, and people from refugee and immigrant communities or those who have lived experience with the criminal justice system are strongly encouraged to apply.
Essential Functions :
- Provide Crime Victim Advocacy services through the Portland Crime Victim Advocacy program, serving Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington Counties
- Assess needs and provide appropriate support resources and / or referral
- Develop relationships with community providers to facilitate better collaboration for service delivery, especially with providers in underserved, ethnic communities
- Create and implement outreach plans intended to improve access for communities for whom English is a second language
- Develop strategies around outreach for victims of crime
- Provide appropriate services with emphasis on empowerment and sensitivity to the needs of minority and under-served populations
- Maintain appropriate records and reports
- Participate in program planning, problem-solving, and conflict resolution
- Create and deliver outreach and prevention presentations
- Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility : None
Education and / or Experience :
- One year of experience providing advocacy to victims or experience in social work, mental health counseling, and / or crisis intervention.
- Knowledge of community resources to be able to assist populations being served
Clearance : Standard LCSNW criminal clearance, including national sex offender, motor vehicle records, valid driver’s license and auto insurance, and ability to be cleared through the Oregon State Patrol to work with children and vulnerable adults.
Transportation : This position requires reliable transportation for business purposes, such as between work locations and community settings.
This position is responsible for driving clients in a personal and / or agency rental.
LANGUAGE SKILLS : Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish.
