Job Summary

Reporting to and under the general supervision of the Director of Financial Aid (Director), and with additional lead work direction of the State Programs and Processing Coordinator, the Financial Aid Representative acts as part of the Financial Aid processing and advising team and performs moderately complex professional student services work and is responsible for all phases of financial aid application processing.

  • The incumbent is expected to establish an on-going professional relationship with an assigned group of students; serve as a drop-in advisor;
  • participate in campus outreach efforts; coordinate and administer assigned programs; assist with the development of policies, procedures and forms;
  • serve as a member of the financial aid exception review board; make recommendations for and approves requests for professional judgment;

participate in establishing and implementing team goals; and participate and / or take a leadership role (within established parameters, regulations and guidelines) in various work groups that make recommendations to ensure proper compliance and administration of all student aid programs.

Key Qualifications

This position requires the equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.

Additional specialized experience during which the incumbent has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field;

experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

Requires solid PC computer skills, including, but not limited to, advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and using query software and advanced functionality in Excel.

Knowledge of Google Suite, FAA Access, WebGrants, Common Origination and Disbursement (COD), CampusLogic, and PeopleSoft is highly preferred.

Bilingual fluency is desired but not required, English / Spanish preferred.

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $4,841 to $5,036 a month.

This is a full time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave.

In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
