Duties and Responsibilities (*denotes essential functions) :
- Oversees the development and management of Lyon Arboretum's (LA) Living plant collection records and data using MS Access and / or other integrated database tools.
- Oversees the accessioning of all LA's existing and newly acquired plant collections in accordance with established collection management practices and national standards with Grounds & Collections manager and the Horticulture manager.
- Manages and updates plant collection maps in AutoCAD as well as developing and integrating geographical information systems using ArcGIS Pro
- Manages and coordinates, along with the Grounds & Collections manager and Horticulture Manager, the plant material exchanges program with other established institutions, arboreta, botanical garden, private collectors, researchers and stakeholder
- In collaboration with Grounds & Collections manager and staff, oversees the management of LA's plant signage and labeling program, which includes design, content, construction, procurement, production, installation, and maintenance of said signage.
6. Collaborates with the LA staff in the technical writing / publications, the production of final reports (e.g. funding and regulatory agencies, and collaborators), and representing the LA at stakeholder activities such as meetings, workshops and conferences
7. Delivers program information and disseminates results of new scientific research at training and outreach events, such as professional conferences, classes, meetings, tours, workshops, and public and private events, through presentations, talks, demonstrations and written material, which requires working outside of normal working hours including weekends as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Botany, Geography, Natural Resources Management, or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for database-related work;
or any equivalent combination of education and / or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
2. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of database management and plant taxonomy as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with plant permits and plant material transfer.
4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, and Microsoft Suite especially MS Access.
8. If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations
Supplemental Minimum Qualifications
9. Knowledge of, and experience in, plant identification and plant taxonomy.
10. Able to lift and carry weights in excess of 50 lbs. independently and / or with assistance or broken down into smaller weight loads.
11. Able to work in uneven terrain in inclement conditions.
12. Available to work periodic weekend activities and events.
Desirable Qualifications
1. Master's degree in Botany, Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Natural Resources Management, or a related field.
2. Experience and demonstrated technical knowledge, research and application of geographic information systems software such as ArcGIS and ESRI products.
3. Experience in working with drones for the purpose of mapping and geo-referencing.
4. Experience obtaining extramural funding and / or grants.
