Wood is currently recruiting for a talented Electrical Engineering Department / Team Lead - Renewables to join our diverse team of professionals.

This role will form part of Wood’s strategic growth into the Clean Energy market and will be pivotal in helping Wood grow our offering to our current clients and wider renewables market.

Ideally, the role will be seated in our Austin, TX or Atlanta, Georgia offices, but we will consider qualified applicants from any US city where Wood has a local office.

The Electrical Engineering Department / Team Lead will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Electrical Engineering and Design Team / department.

The primary responsibilities include Team / department administration, project staffing, quality assurance (QA), continuous improvement, , growth and entry into new technologies, mentoring and team education on new and / or revised tools and procedures.

The Electrical Engineering Department / Team Lead - Renewables reports to the Engineering Team Lead.

The Electrical Engineering Department / Team Lead - Renewables will support the day-to-day operation of the Electrical design activities.

The primary responsibilities include supporting the Electrical Project Leads with project execution oversight, quality assurance, and monitoring the consistency of engineering deliverables throughout the life of a project.

Additional responsibilities include estimates, project quality and technical audits, staff recommendations, and assignments.

The Electrical Engineering Department / Team Lead - Renewables will oversee the delivery of multidisciplinary projects through their feasibility, pre-construction and / orconstruction phases with a specific focus on the electrical design aspects of projects.

You will act in a customer facing engineer role responsible for leading and growing Wood’s Electrical Engineering (EE) practice serving the renewables industry.

Wood is seeking an enthusiastic, nimble, and entrepreneurial engineer interested in leading and rapidly growing a team of world class electrical engineers.

  • The Wood EE team provides the following services in all renewables including onshore and offshore wind, solar PV, energy storage, green hydrogen, microgrid, and high voltage transmission : Owner’s engineering, including preliminary design, and third party design review of electrical plans, specifications, calculations, and studies;
  • interconnection services including grid interconnection studies and applications, Independent Engineering and technical due diligence;

technical review of projects through development, construction and repowering, including construction monitoring, in support of project financing, for developers, lenders, investors, and buy / sell mergers and acquisitions.

Our teams apply significant experience in regulatory issues as applied in interconnection, grid operations, and transmission planning.

  • Wood is looking for a dynamic individual with great communication skills, ability to develop strong relationships with internal Project Managers as well as with Customers to solve their techno-economic challenges when designing and constructing a project.
  • The ideal candidate will have diverse experience in design, construction, interconnection, and repowering of utility scale renewable energy projects, and will be eager to support growing a business with an entrepreneurial spirit and day to day team lead responsibilities (operations support management) of a high energy and nimble team.
  • Bachelor's or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • PE license in power preferred.
  • North American experience and familiarity with codes and compliances are required.
  • Experience in the design of electrical engineering systems in a project team environment for electrical distribution systems including the selection of equipment (transformers, metal clad switchgear), materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications.
  • Management of projects and staff in a technical consultancy or similar environment.
  • Ability to prepare high quality, concise documents to convey project progress, status and financial information to internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication (written and spoken) in English, with the ability to engage and interface with stakeholders; bilingualism (or a proficiency in Spanish) a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Electrical Engineering standards, best practices and safety regulations.
  • Working knowledge of utility scale generation and interconnection; including process, requirements, and implementation.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering software and management software including but not limited to Smart Plant Electrical, ETAP, SKM, Microsoft Visio and Microsoft Access
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to completing work.
  • Valid driving license for use within USA.
  • Willingness for occasional domestic travel (up to 20%).
  • Must be a US Citizen or authorized to work lawfully in the US, without sponsorship from Wood.
