Alter Trading Corporation, a 125+ year old, privately held company with 55 scrap metal processing facilities throughout eight states in the Midwest and Southern region is searching for an energetic, detail-oriented Scale Clerk for it operations located in Des Moines, IA.

Job Description / Responsibilities

Under supervision, oversee, facilitate, process and maintain accurate records for the yard of scrap materials received and / or shipped.

Primary Responsibilities :

• Visually verify inbound / outbound vehicles on scale deck; enter weight in computer.
• Visually verify material type; enter code in computer.
• Process payment of customers, verify information is correct and material ticket for corresponding customer and price is correct.
• File appropriate paperwork to support scheduled payments to be made.
• Answer incoming calls; give directions, handle questions and or direct to appropriate area / person.
• Sort completed checks, distribute original to customer and maintain copies and backup for filing.
• Other responsibilities or duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred but not required. Math aptitude necessary, must be able to multi-task when handling customers and vendors in person, on the phone, etc.

Candidate must have the ability to develop effective working relationships with customers and vendors. General knowledge of difference between ferrous and non-ferrous material preferred.
