JOB SUMMARY
UConn Student Health and Wellness is searching for Nurse Navigators (RNs) to provide professional nursing and health services to the Stamford Regional Campus.
As a college health nurse, this registered nurse will be responsible for providing patient focused advice and education, by supporting the maintenance and improvement of the health of students, identifying, and assisting in removing or modifying health related barriers and supporting early detection and early intervention strategies.
Collaborates with other providers to enable the student to attain and maintain health. Refers students to other internal or community-based resources as appropriate.
Maintains electronic medical records and ensures compliance with state laws and regulations, as well as SHaW policies and procedures, and program protocols.
May include nursing assessments, examinations, and treatment on the Storrs campus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides in-person and telephone advice and consultation with regard to treatment and prevention.
- Assists in the coordination of care and access to health resources within the community.
- Collaborates with the healthcare team to formulate individualized plans of care for student patients.
- Provides specific health counseling and general health education to individuals, patients, and groups.
- Refers and assists patients in securing appointments for specialized medical care beyond the scope of the Student Health and Wellness services, which may include supporting students in securing transportation and insurance solutions.
- Participates in and / or conducts in-service presentations. Participates in various SHaW and University committees and advisory groups.
- Interviews patients, documents medical history, may examine patients, and make assessments and / or physical nursing diagnosis of condition of such patient.
Counsel patients regarding treatment and prevention.
- Administers medications and treatments and provides care via established protocols as authorized by licensed Physicians and Nurse Practitioners.
- Maintains proper electronic clinical records and reports. Maintains drugs, medical supplies, and equipment, as necessary.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of CT.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or another health related field.
- Two years of nursing experience working directly with adolescents / young adults in community health, ambulatory care, or school-based nursing environment.
- Demonstrable physical assessment nursing skills.
- CPR certification.
- Must have a demonstrated understanding of and stated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Five or more years of nursing experience.
- Experience working in a college health setting.
- Experience providing nursing telephone advice / triage.
- Experience in a Case Management / Nurse Navigator role.
- Bilingual experience (Spanish preferred).
APPOINTMENT TERMS
These are permanent, 9- or 10-month positions (24-35 hours weekly) from mid-August through mid-May annually. These openings are for primarily day positions with a flex schedule which may include an occasional evening or weekend day, to meet the needs of our student population.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. These positions are mainly at Stamford Regional Campus with a rotation to the Storrs Campus.
Presence on the Storrs campus for a period of orientation is required. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
