Helps people work on cognitive, physical, social, and motor skills. The goal is to improve everyday skills which allow people to become more independent and participate in a wide range of activities.
For people with autism, OT programs often focus on play skills, learning strategies, and self-care. OT strategies can also help to manage sensory issues.
- Evaluates the patient’s current level of ability
- Creates goals and strategies that will allow the patient to work on key skills.
- Provides treatment plans for improving recognized challenges.
- Improves the patient’s quality of life through interventions.
- Plans, implements, and directs therapeutic programs for patients.
- Develops specific treatment goals and interventions to meet needs of patients.
- Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team that consults with other healthcare professionals in determining a total treatment plan and recommends changes based on individual observations and evaluations.
- Observes, analyzes, and records patients’ participation, reactions, and progress during treatment sessions, modifying treatment programs as needed.
Requirements
Education / Licensure
- Master’s degree required;
- State of Nevada Occupational Therapist licensure required;
Knowledge and Experience :
- Minimum one (1) year experience in related therapy field
- Works directly with the person with autism to practice skills and work towards goals that are written by the OT in the clinical treatment plan.
- Basic knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests.
- Knowledge of assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders, as well as neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics
