CLASSIFICATION : Non-Affiliated Administrator (AN) Status : Full-Year, Full-Time (Salary, Exempt)

Reports to : Chief Academic Officer-Secondary

General Summary :

The Director of Curriculum and Instruction plays a pivotal role in leading the development, facilitation, assessment, and continuous improvement of student services and programs across the district.

With a strong focus on aligning curriculum with best practices in academic instructional areas. The director works collaboratively with principals, district curriculum leaders, teachers, support staff, other administrators, and members of the school community.

Collaborates directly with both the Chief Academic Officer for Elementary and the Chief Academic Officer for Secondary Education, the director ensures that all curriculum initiatives are cohesive, comprehensive, and meet the diverse needs of all students and has alignment with the TCAPS strategic plan.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Provides leadership and vision to ensure highly effective instruction and curriculum materials at all school levels.
  • Supports buildings with data review cycles and analysis including instructional goals, monitoring, feedback and reviews.
  • Focus on ELA instruction and curriculum development across K-12. Supporting and leadership role in all other academic curriculum areas.
  • Collaborates with district staff, families, and the community in developing, implementing, and continuously improving services and / or programs.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates educational programming in order to ensure continuous program improvement for the benefit of all students.
  • Incorporates policies and procedures in accordance with board policy, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Ensures programs are operating within compliance regulations of board policy, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Provides support and direction for district programming with Indigenous Education and English Language Learners.
  • Ensures that all practices in the district are legal and ethical for each student / family so that each child has the opportunity to achieve at a high level and be prepared for post-secondary success.
  • Provides general supervision and guidance to the employees within the services and programs of oversight.
  • Organizes and conducts training opportunities for district staff.
  • Assists with coaching of principals as needed.
  • Supports Teacher Mentor / Mentee Program.
  • Supports the district-wide student support network.
  • Other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :

  • Meets current standards for Michigan administrator certification.
  • Master’s degree in school administration or an alternative route to school administration certificate is preferred. A Central Office certification is required or evidence of active work toward this certification within the first 6 months of employment through either an alternative route or traditional certification planned program.
  • At least five years of highly effective teaching and / or work in curriculum leadership is preferred.
  • Evidence of experience and leadership in the areas of curriculum, assessment, instruction, program evaluation, supervision, and mentoring / coaching are desirable.
  • Knowledge of learning theory, research-based and evidence-based educational practices, and current trends in education.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

Physical and Mental Requirements :

  • Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis to the office.
  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  • The person in this position needs to be able to move about the office setting, including stooping or crouching to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Regular use of computer and other office equipment (printer / copy machine, etc.)
  • The ability to listen and effectively communicate, both written and orally, information and ideas to a diverse population.
  • Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
  • Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress or conflict situations.
  • Occasionally moves boxes and office supplies weighing up to 20 lbs across the office for various needs.
  • Ability to drive to various locations throughout the district.

Environmental Conditions :

This is a largely sedentary assignment, with most of the duties performed on a computer or phone in a professional office environment.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Work Schedules :

Must be available for overtime and / or emergency overtime before and / or after regular scheduled workday, when necessary.

The individual selected for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
