Adjunct faculty salary for the 2021-2022 fiscal year is $885.00 per credit hour.

South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of adjunct or part-time faculty members in Music who will :

SPSCC accepts applications for adjunct faculty (part-time) positions on an ongoing basis to establish a qualified pool of applicants.

The applicant pool is created for future, part-time professor appointments for the individual program or course indicated.

This announcement will serve as an open and continuous applicant pool. Appointment availability varies from quarter to quarter.

South Puget Sound Community College invites applications for the Adjunct Music Instructor Pool to teach a variety of instruments including;

violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and tuba. Credit load will vary from quarter to quarter depending on student enrollment.

Successful candidates will teach students in the Associate of Music DTA / MRP program as needed / assigned. Due to restrictions in place based on the COVID-19 pandemic, some instruction may occur virtually. What You'll Do

SPSCC seeks adjunct or part-time faculty with the following qualities :

  • Place student success at the center of all decision-making.

  • Embrace change, risk-taking and innovation.
  • Respect the richness of diverse cultural values, beliefs and practices of others.
  • Contribute to the technical and general education of students who will apply learning to the world of work and transfer their education to a university.

Teaching responsibilities include offering lessons to students of various skill levels and experiences (including online lessons), planning lesson activities, demonstrating appropriate techniques, and evaluating and assessing student performance and progress.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach effectively in a variety of musical styles and show evidence of successful studio teaching at the collegiate level.

Faculty members will work with other faculty, staff, and administrators to :

  • Prepare students for, and participates in, final jury examinations for every student in applied lessons. Serve on jury panels as needed.
  • Provide quality-learning experiences for all students in accordance with their needs and abilities while maintaining the basic integrity of the course’s standards and objectives.
  • State clear objectives and criteria in each course syllabus; follow the course outline’s guidelines regarding course syllabi;

integrate appropriate student learning outcomes into each course; evaluate students’ performance in light of these objectives and criteria.

  • Design and implement effective learning processes for students; provide feedback on student improvement in attaining the SPSCC’s college-wide abilities.
  • Order the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
  • Submit syllabi, student evaluations, grades, and other required information in a timely manner.
  • Create and facilitate contextualized and integrated learning experiences in (discipline) in relation to identified college pathways that are linked to career goals.
  • Create authentic assessments of students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities in (discipline) that measure course, program, and college wide outcomes.
  • Apply multiple teaching and learning strategies that promote the affective, cognitive and kinesthetic domains of learning.
  • Support students in and out of the classroom, which includes directing them to campus services and resources.
  • Be available to teach classes on a variety of days and times.

Qualifications You Possess

Minimum Qualifications :

1. Master’s degree in music or equivalent professional experience.

2. Knowledge of concepts, technologies, principles and practices of the teaching of music (instrumental) at a post-secondary level.

3. Effective oral and written communication skills.

4. Demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a diversity of colleagues and students.

Preferred Qualifications :

1. Master’s degree in Music from an accredited institution.

2. Two to Three years of documented experience teaching music at the collegiate level.

3. Demonstrated teaching excellence at the collegiate level.
