Description :
The Registered Occupational Therapist is responsible to evaluate and assess program participants, educate individuals and team members.
Works directly with students with ASD and developmental disabilities providing support and therapy services. Complete required documentation, communicate with other health care professionals on the program participants plan (IEP, etc.
Participate in Agency activities, assist with equipment adaptation if need. Be an active team member.
Role responsibilities include but not limited to the following :
- Evaluate and assess program participants on an ongoing basis.
- Plan and implement appropriate treatment and goals based upon the evaluation, and or observations.
- Educate individuals and / or team members about findings of the evaluation, established treatment plans, methods of treatment.
- Collect and maintain data on goals.
- Contribute to a positive work environment through collaborative teamwork and positive communication in alignment with Kelberman’s culture, values and mission.
- Demonstrate excellent work attendance by being punctual and reliable for all scheduled shifts and meetings.
- Adhere to mandatory reporting requirements and HIPPA laws.
- Complete all required documentation according to program regulations.
- Communicates with other health care professionals relating to all aspects of the Individual Program Plan IP and Individual Education Plan (IEP).
- Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards.
- Assist in orienting students, volunteers and new therapists within the program; provide supervision for therapy assistants as required.
- Provides assessment, fabrication and modification and repair of adaptive equipment.
- Participate in evacuation drills.

Requirements :
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy plus must be registered.
- Minimum one-year experience in related field.
- Current OTR licensure.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances are warranted.
- Knowledge of basic computer programs (Including all Windows programs, Adobe Acrobat) are required. HRIS systems applications preferred.
- Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License.
- This position has regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services and is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OCFS (Office of Children & Family Services)
- Job related tasks involve possible exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue or spills or splashes from these substances. May have exposure to unpredictable individuals and situations when working at Kelberman sites.
- OSHA Exposure Category I.
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended period of times.
- Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
