Responsibilities :
- Lead a staff of Manufacturing Engineers, selecting, developing, and evaluating personnel to ensure efficient operation.
- Monitor productivity of direct reports and ensure efficiency and consistency of work.
- Conduct performance and development discussions as needed.
- Mentor staff to ensure future growth.
- Interface with other Manufacturing organizations to collaborate on Best Practices.
- Prepare manufacturing methods for products and prototypes to document manufacturing requirements.
- Design, develop, modify, and implement equipment and processes to aid in the overall manufacturing process.
- Lead and facilitate problem-solving and cross-functional teams to resolve product / process issues.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing to improve productivity and reduce costs.
- Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout, and establishing and implementing manufacturing plans.
- Ensure proper use of all safety regulations and equipment in manufacturing.
- Actively drive Lean process improvement activities, including 5S, process / equipment innovation, and other initiatives.
- Interface directly with production planning to ensure commitments, schedules, and obligations are met.
- Establish metrics for manufacturing engineering deliverables to be utilized by management.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including work in other functional areas to cover absences or to balance the workload.
- Backfill for the Manufacturing and Operations Manager as required.
Requirements :
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, or Process Engineering from an accredited school.
- 5-+ years in a manufacturing engineering background working with a cross-functional team.
- Strong analytic and communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills and ability to comprehend new hardware / software applications.
- Ability to write concise reports of findings.
- Effective human relations skills are essential.
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
- Ability to interpret and communicate engineering drawings and specifications.
- Sound understanding of engineering theory, design verification, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques, machining, and quality production methods.
- Common interaction with all groups within the company : Engineering, Quality Assurance, Production, Buyers, Technicians, and Planning.
- Proven leadership skills and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and customers.
- Ability to delegate effectively and work collaboratively with other functional departments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead / facilitate problem-solving and cross-functional teams.
- Strong working knowledge of ERP / MRP / MES systems preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to plan ahead, perform capacity analysis, and identify and solve constraints.
- Demonstrated computer skills (MS Word & Excel, process flow software).
- Demonstrated mechanical, electrical, and / or general engineering problem-solving skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Lean tools and methodology preferred.
