The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities.
The AHA has two main offices, located in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. We are currently seeking a Web Applications Developer for our downtown Chicago office.
This position is a hybrid role (three days in the office, two days working remote).
Starting base salary $74,000 - $92,000 a year (commensurate with related experience).
The Web Applications Developer participates in the development, implementation and support of the organizations’ web applications.
Provides timely technical support to customers. Performs project management for assigned projects that includes gathering business requirements and developing project plans.
This position is part of the Information Technology Web & Mobile Solutions team and collaborates frequently with other teams and individuals across the organization, as well as external vendors.
Provides 1st and 2nd tier support for AHA websites by performing bug fixes, implementing website enhancements, addressing web project tasks effectively, and providing post-implementation support.
Create, plan, configure and implement solutions for web applications. Develop techniques, tools, and standards to support assigned projects.
Research new functionality and / or enhancements for existing tools and processes. Conduct internal quality assurance reviews, analysis / design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation for web development activities.
Work with a variety of operating units and vendors to develop, implement, and support web systems / applications. Train colleagues which includes but is not limited to : knowledge transfer for IT support purposes as well as training staff on tools used to manage website content.
Create and maintain technical documentation in a standard and organized manner as systems are enhanced or modified.
Establish technical specifications based on business and functional requirements.
Oversee project activities, including requirements gathering, planning, development, implementation, and vendor engagements, to ensure optimal outcomes and alignment with best-practices and AHA standards.
Research, evaluate, and recommend new tools or applications to increase efficiency and / or effectiveness of day-to-day web development efforts.
Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Experience
Required
3 - 5 years :
- Minimum 3 years of full web development lifecycle experience required including collaborating on cross-functional teams to define and implement web projects (LAMP stack experience a plus).
- Expertise translating business requirements into technical design documentation and process flow diagrams required.
- Expertise providing technical customer service / support required.
- Intermediate experience with object-oriented PHP programming concepts and techniques required.
- Intermediate experience with
web server protocols and technologies required (e.g. HTTP / S, NGINX / Apache).
- Experience developing / administering web content management systems (CMS) required (Drupal experience a plus).
- Experience working in a virtual environment with cloud hosting required (Amazon Web Services and / or Pantheon experience a plus).
- Experience committing / merging code using Git or a similar version control system required, preferably from a Linux command line.
Preferred
- Expertise troubleshooting and resolving web application support issues.
- Expertise developing with relational databases (MySQL experience preferred).
- Intermediate knowledge of front-end technologies and package management : HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript ES6, npm (Angular a plus).
- Intermediate knowledge of responsive web development frameworks (e.g., Foundation, Bootstrap, etc.).
- Intermediate experience leveraging JavaScript and PHP / Symfony libraries (e.g. jQuery).
