POSITION SUMMARY :

Provides sales support and generates business for all Seaboard Marine services with an emphasis on the Caribbean Division.

To represent the company’s interest in any function, specifically those customer-related. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

GEOGRAPHIC REGION :

Applications out of the geographic region for this position will not be considered.

QUALIFICATIONS : Required

Required

  • Two (2) years of recent experience in sales, inside sales, and / or customer service in ocean transportation or industry-related markets.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English at an advanced level, with strong written and verbal skills, including proper pronunciation and listening comprehension of different accents of the Caribbean region.
  • Proven exposure to the Caribbean market, including Jamaican culture and accent. .
  • Exposure to outside sales functions.
  • Intermediate Computer skills (in programs such as MS Word, Excel & Outlook).
  • Clean and current Driver’s License with reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and strong initiative.
  • Possess strong organization and time-management skills. Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast- paced environment.
  • Ability to think logically and follow procedures and instructions.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, holidays and / or weekends.
  • Flexibility to attend Conferences, Trade Shows, visit specific customers, as may be required.
  • Ability to travel domestically frequently / daily and overseas as deemed necessary by sales management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Primary

  • Must visit customers at the customer’s designated sites to effectively secure the customer’s business relationships.
  • Develop a viable account base, focusing on all SML services, but gearing towards a specifically assigned specialized market.
  • Plan & manage a regular contact cycle according to the standards and directives of sales management. This will include the daily reporting of all planned / effected sales visits and calls, making a minimum number of visits and / or calls as required by sales management, and maximizing effectiveness through proper geographical identification of accounts.

This will also include calls while entertaining customers and traveling.

  • To profile and identify the customer base and keep proper records updated (i.e. account profiles, customer files, mailing lists, etc.).
  • To generate sales leads and other pertinent information on both existing and new business. Likewise, responsible for responding to incoming sales leads for assigned accounts / territories based on time criteria set by sales and marketing management.
  • To regularly provide comprehensive reporting on specific markets / accounts / competition to maintain all interested parties properly advised and informed.
  • To utilize all designated / provided resources and tools in the daily job functions. This will include using inter-company systems (i.

e. Stars Tariff Retrieval System, Sales & Marketing Revenue Reports, etc.).

  • Keep abreast of all tariff changes, including any new regulations and changes in rate applicability. To maintain a constant and proactive line of communication with the Pricing Staff on related issues.
  • To maintain proper and accurate expense records of all customer entertainment, travel and other expenses in compliance with company policies.
  • To properly manage all contracts under your assigned portfolio and keep them updated of all changes and have the contracts renewed 30 days before expiration.
  • To attend Department meetings and / or any other functions such as trade shows, association meetings on a regular basis, representing SML in a professional manner.
  • To oversee the overall performance of any specifically assigned market, and to interact with all parties in respect to the success of the same.
  • To maintain a constant and regular line of communication with the appropriate overseas offices, and to take the necessary action to ensure that all directives are being followed.
  • To keep Sales leadership properly informed of any issues concerning the area of responsibility cited. To provide any necessary support as directed by Sales Management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use his fingers.
  • The employee must drive during daylight and evening hours continuously on streets and highways.
  • The employee must be able to travel via airplane, train, and other modes of transportation occasionally.
  • The employee is continuously required to talk and / or hear.
  • The employee is continuously required to sit.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED :

Receives direct supervision from the Sales Management personnel.Does not exercise supervision over any position but may request the assistance of office / clerical staff.

CONDITIONS :

  • Indoor office environment (30%) with controlled temperature intermittently during the day.
  • Outdoors environment driving to visit and meet with customers (70%) and exposed to non-controlled temperature.
