BronxWorks is hiring one (1) Instructor for the SONYC middle School Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for conducting small tutoring groups
• Design and implement enriching academic programs to build each student’s skills
• Facilitate structured extracurricular activities that supports youth Social Emotional Development
• Attend weekly and monthly staff meetings
• Able to use conflict resolution techniques with a variety of individuals in an array of circumstances
• Observe child behavior and make recommendations to parents and / or Program Coordinator
• Provide guidance on academic progress of program participants to both parents and the Program Coordinator
• Organize and draft educational materials, including evaluation tests
• Complete small projects in a timely and efficient manner as directed by Program Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS

• Associates or Bachelors degree preferred minimum of two years program experience
• Works very easily with young people in grades 6-8 and interacts well with others
• Experience with or knowledge of best practices in youth development preferred
• Proficiency in modern business communications, including personal computers, electronic mail, voicemail, facsimile and copier equipment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to travel in the boroughs of NYC and its adjacent counties
• Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods
• Ability to occasionally lift and / or move up to 10 pounds
• Ability to speak clearly
• Ability to reach by extending hand(s) and / or arm(s) in any direction
• Ability to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm, for example, using a keyboard or phone
• Ability to stand, walk or sit for long periods of time
• Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time in all types of weather, including inclement weather
• Ability to bend and retrieve objects and / or documents
• Ability to climb five flights of stairs
