After completing our corporate sponsored Personal Care Assistant course, where a wealth of information on companion and personal care is presented, caregivers also learn hands on personal care such as using a gait belt, transferring a client safely, and giving bed baths.
Entry level personal care assistants learn specific ways to preform duties such as companionship and homemaking skills. Homemaking skills provide the maintenance of a safe and clean home environment as well as preforms various housekeeping skills and meal preparation.
Companionship provides activities for clients in their residences while maintaining quality of life. A personal care assistant provides for the maintenance of a safe and clean environment.

Personal Care Assistant Essential Functions
- Performs homemaking activities which include (but are not limited to) : vacuuming, dusting, sweeping or mopping floors, doing dishes, changing bed linens, doing laundry and cleaning bathrooms.
- Prepares meals and snacks according to instructions.
- Performs patient-specific activities. These could include (but are not limited to) :
- Performing errands and / or providing transportation
- Provides companionship for the client. This includes accompanying client on walks, trips to social / recreational activities, assistance with hobbies, etc.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or G.E.D. certificate.
- Successful completion of the sponsored Personal Care Assistance training (40 hours)
- Completion a Competency Evaluation
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English as needed for the job.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have use of an insured automobile.
