Summary :
Patient Access Representatives facilitate a welcome andeasy access to the facility and are responsible for establishing anencounter for any patient who meets the guidelines for hospitalservice.
Patient Access staff ensures that all data entry isaccurate including demographic and financial information for eachaccount.
Patient Access has numerous procedural requirementsincluding data elements, insurance verification, authorization forservices, and collections for all patient portions including priorbalances.
Patient Access staff is responsible for the successfulfinancial outcome of all patient services. Patient Access isresponsible for ensuring the hospital maintains compliance withFederal regulations, JCAHO, and Department of Health and Hospitalcompliance standards.
Patient Access communicates directly withpatients and families, physicians, nurses, insurance companies andthird party payers.
This position requires professional appearance,and behavior, good communication skills and effectiveorganizational skills.
Patient Access representatives requiredependability, flexibility, and teamwork.
Responsibilities :
- Meets expectations of theapplicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies : Leader of Self, Leader ofOthers, or Leader of Leaders.
- Accuratelyinputs all required data elements for scheduling and registration,including patient demographic, financial information, guarantorinformation, and relevant notes associated with theencounter.
- Verifies insurance eligibility andobtains necessary authorizations for servicesrendered.
- Calculates and collects theestimated patient portion based on benefits and contractreimbursement as well as prior balances.
- Performs financial assessment for appropriate programassistance.
- Communicates the purpose of andobtains patient / legal guardian signatures on all necessary hospitaldocuments.
- Represents the Patient Accessdepartment in a professional, courteous manner at ALLtimes.
- Required to assist the hospital in theevent of an internal or external disaster.
- Supports the flexible needs of the department to accommodatepatient volume in all areas of the hospital. This may requireassignment to another area of the department, and shiftchange.
- Supports the department in achievingestablished performance targets.
- Completesrequired training as needed and as mandated.
- Maintains the team discipline of following all elements ofestablished standard processes
- Works with HPWT(High Performance Work Teams) to maintain an efficient, clean, andorderly workplace using 5S principles and practices onceimplemented in the work unit.
- Coordinates,communicates, and assists in monitoring work flow and work tasksnecessary to manage fluctuating volumes.
- Provides feedback to the team to help identify educational needs,and mediation needs by reporting IPOs (issues, problems, andopportunities).
- Demonstrates competence toperform assigned responsibilities is a manner that meets thepopulation-specific and developmental needs of the members servedby the department.
- Appropriately adaptsassigned assessment, treatment, and / or service methods toaccommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural,age-specific and other developmental needs of each memberserved.
- Takes personal responsibility toensure compliance with all policies, procedures and standards aspromulgated by state and federal agencies, the hospital, and otherregulatory entities.
- Performs all duties in amanner that protects the confidentiality of patients and does notsolicit or disclose any confidential information unless it isnecessary in the performance of assigned jobduties.
- Performs other duties asassigned.

High School Diploma or equivalentyears of experience required.
Experience
1 3 years of experiencepreferred.
