JOB SUMMARY
This is an exempt position that reports to the VP, Finance and works closely with the senior accountant for taxes. The person in this position is responsible for a range of duties aimed at ensuring compliance with federal and state tax laws.
This includes managing all IRS-related correspondence, ensuring timely and accurate payment of estimated federal and state taxes and filing necessary extensions.
This person will be expected to be up to date on tax regulations, prepare and file tax returns and provide strategic tax planning advice to minimize liabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field; master's degree preferred.
- At least five years of tax accounting. Experience in insurance is a plus.
- Active CPA license.
- Understanding of GAAP or SSAP accounting principles.
- Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of accounting systems and computer application skills including Excel, Word, and QuickBooks.
- Interpersonal and organizational skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Completion and filing of annual federal and state tax returns.
- Filing federal and state extensions.
- Paying federal and state estimated tax payments.
- Managing all IRS tax related correspondence.
- Quarterly completion of an income tax provision incorporating all year-to-date results for all entities.
- Working with advisory and tax compliance service to coordinate outside tax return and provision reviews.
- Ownership of and filing of the 1099s including ongoing compliance with regulatory changes and managing third party processors.
- Completion and filing of non-profit return for two entities.
- Generating year-end footnotes disclosures for the annual audit.
- Managing property taxes for all jurisdictions across the country outside of Salt Lake County.
- Completing quarterly use tax returns.
ACCOUNTABILITY & REQUIREMENTS
Generation of precise, accurate, and timely income tax expense and provision actual results and
forecasts as requested during the year and annually in connection with the annual budgeting process.

This position is based in an office environment with adequate temperature and lighting control. There are no known hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, or other environmental factors.
