Job Description

Job Title : Aircraft Mechanic

Location : Fresno, CA

Pay : $37.91 / hr

Preferred Airframes : AH-64, CH-47, & UH-60 but all aviation maintenance experience considered

Requirements : Personal Tools Mandatory

  • Purpose and Scope : Removes, repairs, replaces, adjusts and tests pneudraulics systems, subsystems, assemblies, and components according to technical manuals, directives and safety procedures;
  • fabricate tubes and hoses; diagnoses and troubleshoots malfunctions to pneudraulics systems or component; uses and performs operator maintenance on common and special tools;
  • maintains and stores hydraulic fluids and other flammable materials; requisitions and maintains shop and bench stock for repair of aircraft pneudraulics systems;

prepares forms and records related aircraft maintenance; provides technical guidance as needed

Essential Responsibilities : Pneudraulic systems workers receive assignments from their immediate supervisor, through work orders.

They work from simple plans, sketches, and detailed specifications and are held responsible for completing work assignments that are usually routine and repetitive by following instructions and accepted trade practices.

On new or unusual assignments, the supervisor or a higher graded worker explains in detail the sequence to follow and checks frequently for adherence to instructions.

General : Pneudraulic systems workers follow detailed maintenance and repair procedures in performing bench work involving the inspection, repair, and maintenance of parts and subassemblies of hydraulic and pneumatic components.

The work is usually repetitive and includes visually inspecting for obvious defects such as scratches, corrosion, or bent or broken parts of subassemblies and less complex assemblies such as oil pumps, coolers, heaters, and simple valves;

replacing or removing damaged parts; and performing bench tests for leakage and operability of moving parts.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required (Duties include but not limited to) :

High school graduate or equivalent is desirable. Five (5) years actual and recent, aircraft related systems experience desired;

three (3) years required. Thorough knowledge of technical publications related to aircraft and weapon systems. Must have knowledge of the scope and limitation of various categories of maintenance and their application to the contract unit.

Must know theory and principles of engine operations; accessories and components; electrical and electronic; pneudraulic;

and mechanical principles. Knowledge of sheet metal, properties of materials, fuels, and oils. Must be able to read, interpret and use manufacturers maintenance manuals, service bulletins, blueprints, wiring and schematic diagrams, data tables and other specifications to determine feasibility and method to repair or replace malfunctioning or damaged components.

Must be able to inspect, repair, and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment. Shall work with others and independently, predicated on the scope of complexity of operations.

Shall be able to pass and maintain Government security clearance as required by the contract unit. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.

Pneumatic systems workers are knowledgeable of troubleshooting procedures such as soap and water tests designed to isolate malfunctions in uncomplicated assemblies such as fuel valves, regulators, temperature sensors and switches, dampers, and constant flow devices.

They are capable of making adjustments during assembly of component parts, involving alignment and clearances where critical tolerance is not a factor.

They have the ability to interpret single view blueprints, diagrams, and similar drawings, and to use arithmetic and standard handbook formulae in performing dimensional measurements and maintaining required tolerances.

They use a working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical and mechanical principles to repair and test the various subassemblies.

Pneudraulic systems workers are skilled in the use of test equipment and measuring devices such as bench test sets, micrometers, torque gauges, multimeters, gauge blocks, and calipers to inspect, disassemble, repair, and test parts and subassemblies of hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic assemblies and components.

They determine whether to rework or replace parts that exceed allowable wear thresholds based on visual detection of unusual wear patterns or measurements of disassembled parts compared to directly applicable go-no-go specifications.

The work requires the ability to use lapping machines, drill presses, grinders, demagnetizers, and other power and hand tools to remove imperfections such as scratches and rough edges;

and to assemble parts into assemblies and components by shimming, honing, lapping, or selective fitting from groups of like parts.

The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc.

Shall be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

Physical Demands :

This classification activity is usually accomplished in an office / hangar / flight line environment and as such requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with office / hangar / flight line activities.

Shall be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds. Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
