General Notes

May occasionally be requested to work additional hours or weekends as needed to complete time-sensitive projects or facilitate events and programs.

May be required to travel to / within Texas for 3 in-person events per year with institutional support for travel costs.

Position expected to continue through August 2026 with opportunity for renewal.

Purpose

The Project & Communication Manager will report to the Director of the Pharmacy Addictions Research & Medicine (PhARM) Program.

They will collaborate with internal staff and external partners to execute educational and research projects focused on substance use and addiction.

They will also develop and distribute communications (e.g., email marketing, virtual newsletters). This role requires a high level of collaboration, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic academic environment.

The PhARM Program is a research and training unit with a growing core team of two full-time faculty, five full-time staff, and seven part-time staff and trainees.

We collaborate with a large network of internal and external partners - including the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the City of Austin - to implement and evaluate projects addressing substance use challenges in our community.

We are embedded in the College of Pharmacy, which is consistently ranked in the top 10 pharmacy schools in the United States.

Responsibilities

Provide project management across several sponsored projects focused on research and educational objectives, including serving as the superuser for a task management system (e.

g., Asana) to ensure effective implementation

Lead development and distribution of program communications, including event materials (e.g., conference programs), virtual assets (e.

g., email campaigns), and collateral (e.g., program reports)

Develop and supervise implementation of program brand guidelines, and proofread materials for accuracy, clarity, and adherence

Contribute to program planning and promotion, and to the development of new proposals for competitive funding

Additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of combined experience in project management and communications OR master's degree and 1+ year of experience

Proficiency in virtual communication and collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Webex, Google Drive, Box, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Asana, MailChimp, Canva, WordPress, social media)

Record of excellence in coordination and problem-solving with partners, vendors, and customers

Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and ability to manage projects with varying deadlines

Excellent ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, both virtually and in-person, providing or following direction as it pertains to a project

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Professional demeanor and ability to interface effectively with staff, faculty, partners, vendors, customers, event attendees and others

Ability to synthesize subject matter in a succinct and approachable manner for both expert and non-expert audiences

Preferred Qualifications

Work experience related to substance use, addiction, harm reduction, or associated issues (e.g., mental health, psychiatric disorders, infectious diseases, chronic pain)

Lived experience related to substance use, addiction, harm reduction, or associated issues (e.g., mental health, psychiatric disorders, infectious diseases, chronic pain)

Education, certification, or work experience in copywriting, copyediting, and project management

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Salary Range

$80,000+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

This position allows for up to 90% teleworking

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

Periodic travel to and within Texas

May be required to lift and carry up to 30 lbs

Retirement Plan Eligibility :

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
