Equipment Technician- AZ -Campus Facilities

Summary

The Equipment Technician will support all critical operations equipment, along with providing vital support on all equipment used in our landscape and maintenance operations.

This position will report to the Supervisor of Engineering Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, service, and repair a wide variety of power equipment. This will include commercial mowers, 2-cycle equipment, utility vehicles, trailers, tractors, golf carts, and other power equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, service, and repair of the university’s 33 fleet vehicles.
  • Maintain and inspections for the safe operations of 5 university owned aerial lifts.
  • Fabrication, including, but not limited to welding, grinding, and cutting of steel and aluminum.
  • Must possess a strong mechanical skill set, including knowledge of basic electrical systems, hydraulic systems, mower technology and engines, both gasoline and diesel.
  • Basic automotive repair experience, oil changes, brake fluid and tire rotation.
  • Must have a desire to stay proactive, not reactive, as it applies to preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Strong organizational skills, with strength in record keeping, shop cleanliness, inventory, and parts ordering.
  • Comply with all University safety policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • A team player with good communication abilities; must be adept at fostering communication between the department, MWU employees and outside vendors.

  • Assist with event set-up, during, and take-down as needed.
  • Assist maintenance building maintenance specialists in performing various tasks as needed.

Education and / or Experience

High School diploma or equivalent is required. 1 or more years of technical school training, certifications, or degree is desired.

Must have 2-4 years of service / repair experience with either cars, trucks, mowers, small engines, 2-cycle equipment, or utility vehicles.

A valid driver’s license is required.

Computer Skills

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams) required. Familiarity with Campus Facilities Management Systems.

Knowledge on budgeting and budget requisitioning systems.

The employee is frequently required to stand, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes from working with solvents and cleaners used to maintain the equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
