ABOUT THE LUCAS MUSEUM OF NARRATIVE ART

As the first museum to focus exclusively on storytelling through images, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art believes that visual storytelling can connect us and help shape a more just society.

With a growing collection that encompasses artworks from across cultures, places, times, and mediums, including paintings, sculptures, murals, photography, comic art, book and magazine illustrations, and the arts of filmmaking, the Lucas Museum will explore narrative art’s potential to prompt questions, invite opinions, inspire community, and move people to think about the impact of images on our world.

Co-founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson and led by director and CEO Sandra Jackson-Dumont, the Lucas Museum was designed by renowned architect Ma Yansong of MAD Architects with Stantec as executive architect and is under construction in Los Angeles’s Exposition Park.

An 11-acre campus with extensive new green space designed by Studio-MLA will embrace the museum’s 300,000-square-foot building, which will feature expansive galleries, two state-of-the-art theaters, and dedicated spaces for learning and engagement, dining, retail, and events.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Security Workforce is responsible for recruitment, training, and leadership of the Lucas Museum security workforce.

The manager will work with the Director of Security and other security managers to assess safety and security risks to the museum and recommend mitigation strategies.

The manager will develop protocols that ensure consistent, quick, and effective responses by the security workforce. The manager will develop training that reinforces these protocols and develops the skills necessary for the security workforce to respond to incidents.

The manager will work with the Director of Security to ensure that external partnerships with law enforcement and other government and private entities are strong, and that their respective responsibilities are clear.

The manager will recruit and train a dedicated threat assessment team, which will investigate any immediate threats to the museum and its occupants.

This team will also conduct internal investigations, as needed. The manager will develop training for both the security staff and the wider LMNA workforce on specific threat awareness, including active shooter response and conflict resolution.

The manager will also oversee security planning and coordination for special events and VIP visits.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct in-depth risk and vulnerability assessments and remediation strategies
  • Implement the security workforce staffing plan to address potential risks to the museum’s occupants and property
  • Recruit a workforce to provide security in accordance with the wider mission of the museum, is agile in responding to the various threats the museum confronts, and attuned to community they serve
  • Identify training needs for the security workforce and develop programs internally, through contracted specialists, or both
  • Develop a threat management team to identify, investigate and mitigate emerging threats of violence in and near the museum
  • Partner with the Social Impact Department, Human Resources and other departments of the museum to ensure that the security workforce is representative of the communities surrounding the Lucas Museum
  • Partner with Visitor Services and other museum departments to develop effective visitor engagement strategies for the museum
  • Partner with other museum departments and external organizations in planning events that are hosted within the museum
  • Partner with Security Managers, General Counsel, Human Resources, and Finance regarding safety and security protocols; threat management; and internal investigations
  • Partner with Security Managers, Human Resources, and General Counsel regarding the background investigation process
  • Develop and implement cost-effective crime-prevention solutions to deter threats and reduce perimeter vulnerabilities through deployment and engagement of the security workforce
  • Provide direction and guidance to security operations personnel to detect emerging incidents quickly, and determine appropriate responses
  • Coordinate with law enforcement agencies, the Los Angeles Fire Department, and other government agencies to clarify roles, responsibilities, and incident response plans
  • Identify, along with the Technology Department and the Security Manager Technology, communications and monitoring technologies that will assist the security workforce
  • Develop, test and improve emergency response plans, along with the Security Manager Life Safety, Emergency Response and Resilience.

These plans will include disaster response, hazard mitigation, and evacuation plans

  • Coordinate investigative activities with security managers, curatorial and conservation departments, and other museum departments
  • Attend law enforcement and public safety technical security best practices forums for reducing vulnerabilities from threats including cyber-crimes, vandalism, theft, facility breach, Insider-Threat, and targeted violence
  • Prepare quantitative and qualitative physical security reports for Security Department management and museum executive leadership

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college
  • Minimum ten years of experience in investigations, large facility protection, vulnerability assessments, emergency response, and event security
  • Minimum five years of experience leading and developing a security workforce
  • Any combination of the following training, certifications or experience : Department of Homeland Security critical infrastructure protection;
  • training from a federal, state, county or municipal government law enforcement academy; emergency response; disaster response;

emergency medicine; conflict resolution; Equal Employment Opportunity counselor
