Opioid Treatment Program Certified Peer Support Specialist - Part Time

SouthLight offers a Peer Support Scholarship to qualified applicants to cover the cost of the Peer Support Certification course, which we will enroll you in upon hire!

As our Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS), your primary role is to connect and engage with clients to promote retention in services and progress toward treatment goals.

You will orient new and returning clients into services by sharing lived experiences, supporting them through the admission process, and creating a welcoming, person-centered recovery culture.

The OTP CPSS provides an individualized, strength-based approach to support engagement and retention in treatment services for the purpose of promoting the development of wellness self-management, personal recovery, natural supports, coping skills, and self-advocacy skills.

Starting pay $18.00 per hour.

You will be eligible for medical benefits the first of the month following your first 30 days. We have options for a standard plan, as well as an HSA with a $300 initial contribution and up to a $25 per paycheck match.

You would receive 10 paid holidays as well as PTO hours which would accrue at a rate of 10 hours per month. After 6 months you would be eligible to enroll in our 401(k) plan which has a 4% match.

We also provide company paid life insurance, short- and long-term disability, in house and paid training opportunities, and paid credentialing.

SouthLight is also an approved employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).

Job Responsibilities of an Opioid Treatment Program Certified Peer Support Specialist

  • Model recovery values, attitudes, beliefs, and personal action to encourage wellness
  • Assist clients with the intake process; support individuals through navigation and participation
  • Promote engagement activities with those who are new to treatment, in the office and in the community if needed
  • Assist clients to complete paperwork
  • Assist clients with linkage to community referrals
  • Promote self-advocacy and empower clients to use their legal rights and access entitlements
  • Encourage development of natural supports where possible
  • Maintain and submit documentation (OTP contact sheets, required data collection, screenings) within required timeframes
  • Participate in skill-building activities to increase ability to integrate recovery and wellness practices into daily activities group an or individual functions
  • Facilitate a peer lead group supporting medication-assisted recovery and other skill building groups as needed

Qualifications of an Opioid Treatment Program Certified Peer Support Specialist

Educational and Experience

  • HS diploma or GED equivalent and be at least 18 years old
  • Minimum of 1 year working with the adult MH / SU population preferred

Licensure / Certifications

  • Active Certification in NC as Peer Support Specialist
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, Blood borne Pathogens training, and NCI
  • CADC preferred, not required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of county resources and opportunities
  • Great "people skills" and an ability to make lasting community connections
  • Ability to learn other technological recording methods i.e. EMRs / EHRs
  • HIPPA and Substance Abuse specific confidentiality and privacy rights
