New Milford (Connecticut) Public Schools is seeking a Bookkeeper for Payroll. This is a full time, 12 month position that will provide support and assistance to the Accounting Manager and Fiscal Services Director, district staff and Central Office regarding all aspects of payroll.

Qualifications :
- Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Prior payroll processing experience, preferably in the public sector working with union contracts.
- Proficiency in bookkeeping and other general accounting procedures.
- Advanced secretarial skills including but not limited to experience with computer data base applications, Word, Excel, electronic mail, and / or financial software.
- Must be articulate with an ability to work with district staff and possess good judgment in responding to the public.
- High degree of organization.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
- Work with a minimum of supervision.
- Experience with MUNIS and Aesop / Veritime software preferred.
Key Responsibilities :
- Payroll processing for all BOE employees to include data entry, disbursements, deposits, garnishments, payments, posting, journal entries, and stop payment of payroll checks.
- Prepare reports and transmit payroll financial data on a Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and Annual basis to include : payroll, social security / Medicare, federal / state withholding, dues and State of Connecticut Labor Department.
- Process and maintain encumbrances for salary accounts.
- Prepare and reconcile Teacher Retirement, Credit Union and Union Dues data on a monthly basis.
- Reconcile monthly bank statements for district’s QuickBook accounts.
- Prepare and maintain records for substitute teachers’ payroll.
- Prepares and maintains automated labor distribution data.
Examples of Duties :
- Perform secretarial duties to include but not limited to : manage & maintaining office documents, faxing, photocopying, all written and electronic correspondence, financial documents and records.
- Answer and direct telephone inquiries.
- Support district staff and others with payroll questions and concerns.
- Maintain schedules and calendars for state required reports and other time sensitive activities such as payroll dates and online banking deadlines.
- Provide logistical support for building and department activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
