The Department of Global Health was established in 2007, bridging the schools of Medicine and Public Health, with a mandate to harness the expertise and interdisciplinary power of all UW schools and colleges.

Position purpose and complexities : The Department of Global Health (DGH) is hiring a 100% FTE Events and Marketing Specialist to help craft the strategy and message to highlight the research being done by DGH faculty, staff, and students through email, social media, websites, and events.

This position will report to the Communications Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Create, implement, manage, execute, and evaluate DGH events whose primary audience is Faculty and Staff. Events include both in-person and virtual.

There will be the occasional weekend and evening event.

  • Plan and manage all event logistics, working from an approved budget, including contacting speakers, compiling conference materials, coordinating registration, recruiting volunteers, and managing services.
  • Manage special event RSVP and attendance processes, coordinate arrangements for VIP attendees and guests.
  • Recruit and train event volunteers and student workers to help with event execution.
  • Provide operational support needed to keep events running smoothly, including maintaining supplies and creating signage.
  • Communicate with event stakeholders and DGH leadership regarding planning.
  • 20% Email :

Manage and publish the department newsletters, including content curation and layout.

  • Create graphics and source imagery as needed.
  • Develop strategies to improve the process of collecting information for DGH email newsletters.
  • Manage email lists including segmentation and updates.
  • 20% Social Media :

Develop, create and maintain a social media content calendar aligning with department goals.

  • Oversee department social media channels, creating original content and monitoring accounts.
  • Assess social media metrics to refine the DGH social media strategy.
  • 15% Website Management :

Create schedules for monitoring information and updates.

  • Ensure the DGH internet and intranet are up to date and accurate.
  • Work with DGH centers and programs to solicit content and updates.
  • 10% Other :

Other responsibilities as needed including writing, editing, administration, and special projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, English, Public Health or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Two years' experience working on communications and marketing platforms, including managing events.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Demonstrated success working independently to problem-solve and handle multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the Internet.
  • Experience with marketing platforms such as Marketo, Hootsuite, or Mail Chimp.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule for events scheduled on evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to lift / move 20 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally for event set up.
