POSITION SUMMARY :

The Sr. Director of Compensation & Benefits is responsible for strategically and tactically planning and directing the organization’s compensation and benefits objectives, programs, policies, administration, and effectiveness.

The incumbent oversees and contributes to the administration of compensation programs, structure, and incentive programs and partners with senior leaders to align total rewards strategy and programs to support the organization’s business objectives while meeting all legal and governance requirements.

The Sr. Director of Compensation & Benefits relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and perform various tasks, including leading and directing the work of others.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Directs employees by supporting, coaching, training, assisting with efficiencies and best practices, and evaluating performance.
  • Supports the team by conducting regular team and 1x1 meetings and helps them with their success and company and People & Culture team engagement.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders across finance and legal departments on accounting, compliance, and regulatory aspects of benefit and compensation programs.
  • Leads key Total Rewards projects and initiatives in support of the organization’s strategic objectives.
  • Analyzes and monitors the effectiveness of compensation and benefit programs.
  • Proactively identifies process improvements and business trends through analytics and feedback.
  • Manages the communications strategy and delivery of all total rewards programs to facilitate a clear understanding of the company’s plans, philosophies, and policies.
  • Directly contributes to the operations and outputs of benefits and compensation practices.

Compensation Specific :

  • Directs the design, recommendation, and management of compensation, incentive, retention, recognition, and non-qualified deferred compensation plans, balancing the ability to attract and retain talent while meeting the organization’s strategic objectives and financial targets.
  • Serves as subject matter expert to senior leaders and operations leaders throughout the organization on all compensation and executive compensation information;

partners with the People & Culture leadership team and business partners on ad hoc requests to address specific compensation-related business issues.

  • Oversees the development of job descriptions and works with department managers and supervisors to analyze and classify positions to ensure internal equity and market competitiveness.
  • Assists in managing and negotiating the compensation plan renewal process with vendor(s).
  • Maintains the Company salary program and database.
  • Performs compensation analysis of new positions and reclassification of current positions.
  • Participates in salary surveys and performs market analysis to ensure competitiveness.

Benefits Specific :

  • Participates in the strategy, development, communication, and implementation of all benefit programs, as well as managing and setting direction for compliance, policy, process, and reporting, including health and welfare.
  • Oversees the analysis and monitoring of the effectiveness of benefit programs, recommending changes to the business and People and Culture Leadership team, which are most cost-effective and consistent with current trends and the market.
  • Sets standards for vendor quality and performance, including but not limited to documentation issues, customer service, adherence to plan provisions, and performance guarantees.
  • Manages the LOA / FMLA program and ensures compliance.
  • Makes recommendations regarding employee benefits issues to executive leadership, determining compliance with legal requirements including but not limited to COBRA, HIPAA, PPACA, and ERISA;

consult with key resources as needed.

  • Collaborates with Payroll and Benefit outsource vendor(s) to ensure benefit deductions are administered promptly.
  • Works closely with plan administrator on designing, managing, and administering 401(k) and nonqualified deferred comp plans.
  • Oversees the legal filings associated with all benefit plans, including health and welfare, 401k, and supplemental retirement plans.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS :

  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze complex data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Ability to effectively synthesize data or information in writing for leaders, teammates, and company-wide communication.

Education / Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University with a minimum of ten (10) years of compensation and benefits experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience leading a team and a company-wide total rewards strategy.
  • Computer proficiency, technical aptitude, and the ability to utilize MS Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Smartsheets, and HRMS software.
  • Above average Excel skills, including creating complex VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and IF statements.
  • Experience creating Macros in Excel and using UKG Pro are a plus.
  • PHR or CCP Certification preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS :

Must handle multiple, simultaneous tasks effectively and efficiently while maintaining a professional, courteous manner.

Must work well with others while demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills and exercising good judgment, including handling confrontations with poise and efficiency.

Must be detail-oriented and organized with a high level of integrity. Must pass a background check and drug screen.
