The Job You Will Be Doing : Residential Child and Youth Care Professional (RCYCP)

The Program(s) You Will Support : Residential Group Home

The Responsibilities & Duties of Your Role :

The position assists in the planning and implementing residential programs for clients in assigned group homes. The role is responsible for supervision and providing guidance to clients during free time and planned activities.

The Residential Child and Youth Care Professional works in direct contact with adolescent and young adult females with emotional and behavioral disabilities that are housed in the group home.

The group home houses no more than five (5) females within the adolescent to young adult age range at a time. As a result of working with individuals with emotional and behavioral disabilities there may be an increased risk of workplace hazards and violence.

Additional Responsibilities & Duties :

  • Supervise clients, and is responsible for their welfare, safety, and whereabouts, at all times.
  • Resolves routine problems that arise within the group home and contacts supervisors should a serious problem arise (client behavior / emotional crisis, medical crises, etc.)
  • Implements group home programs that aid in the social, physical, creative, and emotional development of clients. Analyzes, through observation, client’s specific behavioral and physical disabilities and recommends to supervisor activities designed to remediate disabilities and promote positive interaction among clients.
  • Plans meal menus, prepare meals, purchases food along with the clients and monitors individual meal programs and dietary intake.
  • Provides for client’s health and physical needs by supervising daily living activities, teaching and reinforcing self-care and personal hygiene, eating, dressing, and teaching daily living skills, assist youth with grooming and housekeeping and preparing meals.
  • Acts to ensure a safe, clean and healthy living environment at all times.
  • Applies behavior techniques (i.e. point systems, prescribed treatment modalities) to encourage appropriate social behavior.

Serves as a positive role model to clients by providing an example for acceptable behavior, language, and dress. Implements Individual Care Plans where appropriate.

Monitors client medications and ensures that clients receive medical attention for both routine issues and medical emergencies.

Follows group home procedures for health care and medical emergencies.

Records significant daily activities of individual clients, completes when necessary Critical Incident Reports. Participates in regularly scheduled meetings with clinical and group home staff.

Attends in- service training programs to develop skills in handling client’s medical and behavioral crises improve the ability of clients to achieve social, behavioral and emotional adjustment.

  • Adheres to program personnel policies and procedures. Adheres to COMAR 14.31.06 regulations for residential child care facilities.
  • Performs housekeeping duties as necessary and ensures that the group home is adequately maintained by reporting to the supervisor needed repairs, safety hazards, etc.

Conducts inventory of needed supplies and reports that to the supervisors. Conducts fire drills and room searches when required.

If working the overnight shift, the residential counselor will conduct 15-minute bed checks of the clients in their rooms to ensure they remain in bed.

Inspects units for security by ensuring that doors and windows are locked and for safety by guarding against fire hazards, participating in fire drills, etc.

Reports maintenance needs to the supervisor.

Your Work Schedule : (Sunday thru Saturday shifts - 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm & 11pm-7am)

Weekend work and shift work required at least biweekly. Overtime as directed and approved.

Your Work Environment : Regularly works inside in areas that are adequately lighted and ventilated. Also regularly works outside.

May work in wet conditions. Position regularly requires protective equipment, including gloves when dealing with bodily fluids due to possible exposure to blood borne pathogens. Sturdy shoes required.

Who We are Looking for :

The Qualifications We Need :

Licenses & Certifications : CPR, First-Aid, Valid Driver’s License,Residential Child Care Practitioner Certification (within 180 days of hire date)

Education : High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED)

Experience : Must be at least 21 years of age with at least two years of experience working with emotionally / behaviorally disturbed adolescents or in a group home setting.

Six (6) months as a Residential Childcare Practitioner.

Computer / technology Experience : Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google App, Scan documents, Fax, Print, Copy, Upload & Download documents.

Physical : Walking, standing, bending, stooping, sitting and driving a motor vehicle. Ability to perform passive restraints.

Requires continuous normal hearing (40-60 decibels or 40-60 decibels with correction)

Vaccination(s) : Must be completely COVID vaccinated

The Qualifications We Would Like :

Education : Two years of college education with coursework in psychology, sociology, recreation or special education.

What We Offer for All Your Hard Work :

Compensation : $16.00 per hour to start and $17.00 per hour with the completion of the RCYCP Certification process.
