CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
  • Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA or equivalent to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  • Must pass a basic skills test.
  • Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  • Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
  • CPI training must be obtained at the next available opportunity.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  • Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  • Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
  • Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
  • Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
  • Must be first-aid certified or be willing to acquire first aid training as soon as possible.
  • Ability and willingness to safely supervise student during transition periods.
  • Able to recognize, manage, and implement behavior intervention strategies when appropriate.
  • Able to maintain documentation of ongoing student behavioral data, and be able to report back to the IEP team.
  • Ability to run quickly after students with elopement issues and be able to visually track individual student movement.
  • Able and willing to feed and diaper children who are motoric and require assistance in the bathroom setting.
  • Able to carry out prescribed instructional and behavioral management program.
  • Able to model appropriate behaviors and to provide consistent behavior intervention procedures with student.
  • Physically able to lift students as needed (50 lbs.) or up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Evidence of skill with Microsoft Office software.
  • Evidence of patience and warmth in working with student and able to remain calm in crisis.
  • Ability to be flexible and take direction; must be able to work independently.
  • Ability to work successfully in team situations.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Training and experience in working with students with various disabilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaboratively work with Intervention Team Specialists, classroom teachers, support staff and administration to meet the needs of special education students.
  • Assist with preparation and adaptation of instructional materials including the development of targeted work systems, including alternate work activities.
  • Assist with the preparation and adaptation of individualized visual schedules, break systems, token economy systems, and data collection systems.
  • Assist with modeling positive behavioral strategies, intervention plans, and data collection for building level teams.
  • Implement and model social skill development strategies including the development of individualized social stories.
  • Assist in coaching staff in specialized instructional strategies and including modeling techniques implemented for positive behavioral interventions as directed by an Intervention Specialist.
  • Implement behavior intervention and learning plans designed by the IEP team under direction of Intervention Team Specialists.
  • Record data on academic and / or behavioral skills to measuring student progress in identified areas.
  • Complete student interest inventories as requested by the Intervention Team Specialist or classroom teacher.
  • Assist with a variety of direct observation and data collection methods (, frequency recording, duration recording, and interval time sampling) as directed by an Intervention Team Specialist.
  • Perform paperwork and administrative duties as necessary for required programs.
  • Promote positive public relations when communicating with students, parents, social services agencies and the public.
  • Provide temporary in-home tutoring to students under the direction of a special education teacher. Assisting with the adaptation and development of instructional activities.
  • Travel between schools to implement student behavior plans.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with the Intervention Team.
  • Work effectively with district and building level staff, outside agencies, and families.
  • Required to maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Lifting : The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs. and up to 100 lbs. with help; must also be able to lift overhead.
