JOB FUNCTIONS
- Supervises personnel and technical operations for assigned laboratory.
- Schedules staff to ensure optimal coverage of assigned lab.
- Participates in interviews of job applicants.
- Evaluates and addresses employee performance as appropriate.
- Evaluates new equipment and technical processes and proposes purchase of new equipment.
- Develops and supervises quality control processes and maintains appropriate records related to quality control.
- Ensures that laboratory is compliant with institutional and regulatory guidelines.
- Generates workload and productivity reports as requested.
- Maintains adequate supply inventory.
- Assists the Program Director, Histotechnology Training Program in the development of laboratory curriculum and oversees bench instruction of students.
- Provides high level technical skills in the performance of histotechnician duties within the scope of area of responsibility.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Graduation from an approved National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) school of Histotechnology -or- Associate's degree.
Five years of Histology Technician experience to include two years of supervisory experience. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and / or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.
Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience. Histology Technician (HT) certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
